Lagos Is Not Under Siege: Folks Must Stop the Igbo Scare and putting fear Tactics in people! It's cowardice For too long, some voices in funny Yoruba circles have been pushing the tired propaganda that the Igbo are “taking over” Lagos. They inflate numbers, spread alarm, and paint a picture of invasion. But the truth, backed by hard data, is far less dramatic—and it’s time to man up and face it. According to the 2021 migration statistics, the majority of recent migrants to Lagos—men and women between 15 and 49 years old—are from the South West itself. Let’s be clear: 46.5% of men and 42.8% of women who moved to Lagos came from neighboring Yoruba states. That is the lion’s share. Now look at the South East, which is at the center of this so-called “takeover.” Their contribution? 3.5% of men and 4.4% of women. Significant, yes. Overwhelming? Absolutely not. The South South, North Central, North East, and North West all contribute even smaller numbers. So where does the fearmongering come from? It comes from insecurity. It comes from the unwillingness of some Yoruba elites to admit that Lagos, like every true mega-city, is built by many hands. The Yoruba themselves are still the largest and most recent migrants to Lagos. If anything, they are “taking over” their own city. Let’s stop pretending. Lagos thrives on diversity, on commerce, and on the talent of people from across Nigeria. But it is false—and frankly cowardly—to weaponize Igbo migration as though Lagos will vanish without Yoruba control. Lagos is bigger than such narrow thinking. The propaganda must stop. Yoruba leaders and commentators must tell their people the truth: Lagos is not under siege. The Igbo are not the problem. The problem is the refusal to accept Lagos for what it is—a Nigerian city, a global city, and yes, a Yoruba homeland that has always been open to others. It’s time to man up and stop the scare tactics. — Bassey Mfong

They still claim that Igbos flock to Lagos in large numbers by night buses, as if it’s still the 1970s or 80s. The reality is that Lagos is no longer a top destination for Igbo people. Places like Texas, China, Malaysia and Canada are far more attractive options. |

ariesbull:It's too early to be contradicting yourself. Abi what's your thread epistle about. Going by the statistics you attached, there are more non indigenes in Lagos state who are not from Igbo extraction. And I asked, how come it's only those who are in their minority in Lagos state always frowning about Lagos state government policies claiming they are being targeted |

helinues:Where did you get that one from? 1. The statistics clearly show that migration from the Southwest to Lagos accounts for 90%, making it the highest from all regions. This directly contradicts the long-held belief that the Igbo were the largest group migrating to Lagos. 2. Migration from the Southeast ranks second, but only at 7.9%, followed by other regions. In other words, most regions are now avoiding Lagos and choosing other destinations for migration |

ariesbull:We have been reading from a certain group of people always complaining of being targeted in Lagos state even though they are in their minority. Logically, the unfriendly policies by LASG, who would it affect most? The majority or the minority? Who should be crying foul between the majority and minority? |

They have started changing mouth, knowing fully well Yorubas are now aware of their agenda to usurp Yoruba political and cultural structure in Lagos.. If you like scheme within yourselves from now till 100 years, nothing fit shake Yoruba ownership and control of Lagos. No amount of cosmopolitan nonsense can change the true history.of Lagos State. |

flokii:Who is arguing Yoruba ownership of Lagos ....lol You are like a man that married a wife and everyday he keeps telling him that he is the husband and the head of the house The man doesn't need to say that .. automatically HE is the head of the house ... but when he starts stating that on daily basis tgag means he is loosing grip on gbe family! Maybe he is not living up to the expectations of Lagos Though Bwala said that Lagos isn't a no man's land but we know Yoruba is the lingua franca of Lagos just like the way English is the lingua franca of Jamaica that doesn't make Jamaica England! So no one is arguing or snatching your so called Lagos from you! Why the fear? |

ariesbull:I should still show you the evidence when the evidence is so glaring in all Nigeria social media space. No be because you guys was in your majority, that's why the unfriendly LASG policies have been affecting you, that was the initial claim, but the statistics which you yourself attached is saying otherwise and you want to still be changing the narration When would you people ever take responsibility for self? |

ariesbull:We do not believe in your fake statistics. The same statistics that predicted that Peter Obi would win the 2023 Presidential Elections based on the fake statistics that was conducted on Twitter & Social Media. When only a particular ethnicity keeps peddling lies & propaganda about your Land, calling it No Man’s Land, Smelling, Dirty & Overrated; including dragging the rights and privileges with the indigenous people of that Land for over 15 years, which are rarely accorded and reciprocated to outsiders in their own region, we do not need astrologers & star gazers to tell us that coordinated attacks are being launched by invading marauders to hijack our Land just like they did in Portharcourt. What these outsiders do not realize is that the more epistles they keep writing, just like in this thread, to allay our fears about them laying siege to our Lands, the more our DEFENSE READINESS CONDITIONS (DEFCON) are being put on the highest & maximum alert - DEFCON MINUS 20. ![]() We are not stupid. We can read all the signs on the wall. Infact, we have been reading all the signs for over 20 years. From when Orji Uzor Kalu stated that Igbos generate 60% of the IGR in Lagos; From when Nnamdi Kanu commanded his iPOB Army to burn down Lagos and all the investments in it during the End Sars Protests; From when Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu called the Yorubas Political Rascals; From when the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate (Frederick Nwanjagu) threatened to invite iPOB into Lagos State; Shebi you’re all smarter and wiser than all other Ethnicities in Nigeria? Abi? You should just continue writing your epistles, we will never argue with you. We will just continue to document & record all our observations silently and take swift actions when the time is ripe. When an individual or group of individuals are shooting at you, clearly, you know their intentions. |

shortgun:Lagos no longer has the appeal it once had. It is overpopulated, not much space for further expansion, terribly expensive for decent living. The only reason Lagos is still preeminent is because of the seaport |

Hard-working Lagosians rarely discuss the fear of the Igbo; they are generally good with the Igbos because they bring development and pay taxes. Some other folks claim to be owners of Lagos, but they own no Property or Investment and pay no taxes to Lagos. |

So the jury is out. I will check the Twitter thread and save it. It is a question I had in my questions' bank after the incessant anti-Igbo rhetoric. Which states send the most migrants to Lagos? Common sense will tell anyone that the southwest sends the most because even within Africa, Europe and elsewhere, migrants are from neighbouring cities/states and regions. |
