This same thing Killed my baby girl just 4 days ago. Sad. Allegedly the umbilical cord wrapped around the babies neck according to the Nurses. However, I refuse to accept this huge Lie because when labour was about to start, no nurse or doctor was available to take charge. Infact I went all round the hospital searching for a nurse to attend to us meanwhile the baby head had already started coming out. Can you imagine the level of negligence going on in Nigerian hospitals? My babies head could be visibly seen coming out, stuck in between two worlds yet no single Nurse or Doctor was there to attend to her. When they came and started the process the child came out without life. Then they started blaming it on the umbilical cord saying that it wrapped the babies neck instead of blaming their negligence and incompetence. In short antenatal scans can detect if the umbilical cord is wrapped round the child's neck but so many hospitals don't have these medical devices and also pride won't allow them tell you to go and have this scan done elsewhere just to be sure.

Incompetence, Negligence and Corruption is killing our innocent unborn children.

Every year about 2.5 to 3 Million children die during childbirth die to these preventable reasons but nobody cares.

Money meant to improve health care will be swallowed by one commissioner or Senator while Millions of innocent lives end up paying the price for this corruption.

One day when am Senate President, am enacting the "DeathPenalty" for any corrupt government official or office holder convicted of corruption.

May the Devil help me not get there.

We name such child Aina here in yoruba

Culturally and spiritually, we (Igalas) have meaning to this too.

The Yoruba people call such child "Aina" if it's a famale and "Ojo" if it's a male. But the Ijebu section of the Yoruba call both male and female "Ojo"

There is nothing wrong with an umbilical cord wrapping around a child's neck at birth. Yoruba people even have names that they give children who are born under such unusual circumstances.
For a boy, they name him Ojo. If a girl, she is called Aina.

In short, they simply cut it off.

Can cause problems ke ..

It can distort the oxygen getting to the fetus hence causing a distress to the fetus and would cause fetal bradycardia or a fetal arrhythmia...

If it gets to fatal, you might lose the child..

I think it's only wrapping your neck and if care is not taken it might strangle you to the other side.

I doubt scan can reveal wrapped umbilical cord, my wife gave birth around August and four days before she gave birth we did full scan and it never detected the wrapped cord on my daughter although I had chosen C section because my baby’s weight was 3.9 tho she came out 3.7 and my wife was 40 weeks plus 5 days . I did my research and found out it’s risky to push a big baby then I opted for c section only for my daughter to come out with a wrapped cord and I did about 8 scan for this pregnancy because my wife had a false labor that was managed by the hospital so from time to time we keep checking for the safety of my daughter and none of these showed wrapped cord
