She's not wrong, back then 18 years would be consulting with their seniors in the University or which courses they should apply for or which school is likely to give them admission. The immorality that has taken over our society now, is alarming.

While the dude in question might be a fraudster, annual rent of N1.8m is just self con in some parts of Lagos.

I saw a mini flat (one room self con) with the kitchen in the room for N1.8m at Ikeja and it was advertised as a 'good' deal.

Where does he stay? What does he do for a living? Why is he living apart from his parents?

The Nigerian system's rot is multifaceted.

I won't be surprised if the N1.8m house is a slight upgrade from a pig's sty.

If nothing is done about this, we will have a country where 70% of the politicians and appointees are criminals and they'll be ruling the country in their greed. Worser than the current situation of things.

Who are the people renting it to them?!

Ironically the caretaker of my apartment building is an elderly man.

If it was in the 80’s such an elderly man seeing a young boy with no point-able source of income would refuse to rent to him. Fast forward to 2025, I can categorically tell you this elderly man is among the greediest and untrustable person I have ever met undecided

The older generation of nowadays are nothing to write home about.

I know families, that their young daughters are the breadwinners. Like what tha heck! As a father your daughter in 200L Unilag sends 50k and you don’t question how she got the money?! Who does that?! This would never happen in the 70’s or 80’s no matter how poor the parents are.
Truth and facts. Who's renting to them.

In hose days dem no born you well to come home even with t shirt when you no fit explain the source. Now pikin go build house for the papa the man go dey dance.

Shame on the nation. We're blinded by greed nothing else.

The extreme poverty is also a big factor.

Do Nigerians imply that every young guy is into yahoo? Last week, BNB hit $1000. Meanwhile, it was worth less than $1 more than five years ago. Over the weekend, Tensazange.tsu20 notified me of a memecoin that has risen over 500%and and still rising. If one puts in $1000, the chances of getting to $5000 within a short time are very high. Does one have to perform odd jobs simply because he's very young?

This is the problem with living in a poor country where envious people are in great abundance.

It's easier getting rich these days if one has the capital, information and risk. The belief that one has to sell so much or be involved in a physical activity in order to make money is entirely false.

We would have to check the rented apartment to know his financial status. If it's in Lagos, 1.5m is nothing based on current rent prices. Also, most of these videos are by hungry content creators looking views at all costs.

Poverty is not an excuse, people were even poor in the 70s 80s, talk-less of now the quality of life has improved. I watch a clip of an interview with Warren Buffet, I can’t reallyy remember the context but he was talking about something that bothered him; he said something about how greed was increasing. He made mention of the Great Depression; people were poor but contented, that he beats him that now quality of life has greatly improved, people are so dissatisfied.

T-shirt ke? You are going too far. Extra “Pencil” that is not yours? You go explain tire.

At the bolded, I don’t understand some parents of nowadays. These failures we see in morality and craze for money are from the home.

Recently, I told my mum. Landlord wahala is too much for me, that i would buy a house soon (me prophesying to myself). You need to see how this woman start grilling; with which money? Apart from your regular job are you doing something I don’t know about? “Please don’t run faster than your legs, don’t get into something illegal”.

This is me with a full time job, talkless of a man his 22 year old daughter in University sending him money and he is happy about it. Tufiakwa!

Might not necessarily be yahoo. Young champs are making lots of money on forex and crypto trading. Everything no be yahoo and ritual.
How many people make money from this? The population is limited. Most of the people that made money from this got their initial capital in dubious ways. Also the money made from forex and crypto is also lost as the market is up and down. Leave it, the hustle is illegal as those two businesses you mentioned can't give anyone stable income for even one year not to talk of years.

Life starts for the average first world citizen at seventeen or eighteen. The same life starts for us at forty. By that age, our first world counterparts have retirement on the horizon. See our age-falsifying soccer athletes for example.

Most of these yahoo boys are into rituals but everyone now use the general term yahoo, because it seems to be harmless.
There is nothing seemingly "harmless" about the term yahoo, nothing!

The heads of both the OP and everyone of you who has cast aspersions on the guy, an eighteen years old adult, without any verifiable proof that he's a fraudster, simply because he's able to rent a 1.5m naira house need to be examined properly. All I see here is a bunch of never-do-well elements who have resorted to projecting their inadequacies and failures on a guy who has done something they were neither able to do at his age nor in their older ages.

Come on! A whole lot of opportunities, legitimately and otherwise, abound for people of all ages, and regardless of social strata, to make some cool money. The opportunities have always been there right from time immemorial, and they're now more available and easily accessible.

That said, I don't still hold a brief for the guy.
