Cubana Chief Priest Laments Poor Healthcare In Nigeria, Calls System A “Joke” by alphonsojaybaz(op): 6:48am On Sep 23, 2025
Celebrity barman and nightlife promoter, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has expressed deep frustration over the state of Nigeria’s health care system, describing it as nothing short of a “joke.”

Taking to his Instagram Stories, the socialite narrated his disappointing experience after visiting a hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he has been a long-time patient. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
“Over an Hour, No Doctor” – Chief Priest Recounts

Cubana Chief Priest explained that after his vitals were taken, he waited for more than an hour without being attended to by a doctor. Out of respect for their business, he chose not to disclose the hospital’s name but expressed dismay at the lack of medical urgency.

According to him, he later went to another hospital in Lekki, where he was required to complete a long online form before seeing a doctor. He was eventually attended to, diagnosed with typhoid and malaria, and placed on medication.

Planning Proper Treatment Abroad

The nightlife king lamented that accessing quality medical care in Nigeria has become a major challenge. He revealed plans to travel abroad — particularly to the United Kingdom — for what he described as “proper health care.”

“Healthcare Is a Joke in This Country” – His Words

Sharing his ordeal, Cubana Chief Priest wrote:

“Honestly, health care is a joke in this country. Walked into a hospital I have been using in Ikoyi for years sick. After vitals, it’s over an hour plus & no doctor is available. I no wan post the hospital because I understand what business is all about.

I went to another one in Lekki and I have to fill a long form online to see a doctor. Well, I don go med plus go buy medication for typhoid and malaria. If I reach UK make I do proper health care there. It’s a shame sha, na God dey save person for this country.”

Nigerians React

His outburst has since drawn mixed reactions online, with many agreeing that the country’s healthcare system is unreliable, while others criticized celebrities for seeking treatment abroad instead of investing in improving local hospitals.

Conclusion

Cubana Chief Priest’s lament once again sheds light on the state of Nigeria’s health care system, which has long been plagued by underfunding, lack of infrastructure, and poor service delivery. For many Nigerians, survival often comes down to faith and luck rather than reliable medical attention.

I thought Hope Uzodinma appointed CCP his aide on social media. Why can't he advise his boss to build a world-class hospital in his state?

Every second, they run off overseas to treat malaria and typhoid because they think they can afford it. They obviously learnt nothing from the COVID-19 lockdown.

Re: Cubana Chief Priest Laments Poor Healthcare In Nigeria, Calls System A “Joke” by PureFace1(m):
Even the UK he is talking about have its challenges you will see British complaining about the NHS, poor services and even no available doctors about 60% of the health care workers in the UK are foreigners, even in the USA health care is not cheap and very expensive that it can bankrupt you but their service will still be better than Nigeria though because they have better experts and technology but my point is there is no place without its challenges.

Let's be realistic in this country Nigeria can not have health care on par with those places. Do you know how much investment and budget go into health care in UK and USA ? It is more than our national budget and even with that most health workers in UK are foreigners and a lot in the USA too and it is still very expensive and sometimes poor service and you know how much taxes they pay to be able to get that ? Nigeria can never match that even if we put all our budget on health care.

If this Cubana Chief Priest is as rich as he bragged about he should have a personal doctor with high expertise.

You better go get your personal doctor or well-experienced professional nurse that you can always call personally. They can always bail you out of simple and uncomplicated illnesses, injuries and emergencies.

Cubana should go and settle with his baby mama Helen first before criticizing Nigeria's Healthcare system.

A deadbeat father doesn't have right to criticize others.
He is worse than anything he condemns.

Now imagine if a known personality like CCP himself could be subjected to such show of shame, imagine how much more of pain and agony an ordinary and unknown person like you and myself wey our popularity no pass Nairaland will be subjected to angry

Want a better health care system?

You have too agree that we can't have a good healthcare system. Not on this Budget

Many of you want UK levels of healthcare. UK spends 176 bn pounds on health. Our budget for this year is 14 billion pounds

We got to fight corruption, tax the 70 % of Nigerians that don't pay tax and also diversify the economy so that we can attract trillions of naira in the hundreds of trillions so that we can have budgets that make sense

Or we increase hospital fees

“if you have plenty money, you’ll enjoy Nigeria”

The moment we all start holding our leaders accountable for their failures over the years and for them to do better is when we’ll begin having sense.

For now, let’s keep measuring prick of I get money pass you.

We can't geta working health system on a budget of 2-3 billion dollars or 1 billion dollars for 230 million people

You can mock me and call me taxman and even call me government man, but it does not change the fact.

I also work in healthcare so believe me i know how bad it is

See yeye man. You were poorly serviced and don't have the gut to call out the service provider. How will the service provider sit right and improve on their poor service if you are covering their lapses. If people had assumed Nigerian banks will get better overtime without calling them out, they would not have attained the height they are now through competitive services.

Show us one standard hospital built by Peter OBI as a governor of Anambra for good 8 years. The guy doesn't have any business going to ikoyi Lagos if there are better hospitals in Anambra.

Till this time T,the guy still run to UK for treatment undercover.

So everything is not about TINUBU

Although,OBI CUBANA waiting to see a doctor for 1hr for a cold case is not too long.He is just talking out of IGNORANCE

I always hear this, that governor X should build world class hospital in his or her state, yet no one talks about how the hospital would be funded and maintained, or even who would be employed to work in the world class hospital, after it is finished

There is the Akwa Ibom world class hospital built by Akpabio. Today it is wasting away. Ditto the International cancer center, built by Mrs Yaradua, today it is just there.

Before that Obasanjo upgraded several hospitals with the aid of a reputable foreign company. Today...everything has gone back to status quo before the renovaiton, if not worse

States that have healthcare budgets that before corruption comes in are already scanty, and you want them to build a replica of a world class hospital. That most of you would be insisiting you pay N100 consultation fee, and do cs for less than N50000. Tell me, how would the world class hospital make profits to run well? Or na state wey dey get scanty budget before corruption wey go pay?

The world class hospital abroad that our leaders run to work because their patients pay heavily. Like the one our Bubuhari died in.the very expensive London clinic....it is a hospital where the clients pay high fees. That money is used by the hospital to maintain itself. If we built a hospital like it in Katsina, would the average Katsina man or woman or child be able to pay the type of fees needed for its upkeep?

You Nigerians, you resemble the man that spent all his lifesavings on rolls royce only to find he had no money when the car broke down. When he could have bought corrola for less than one twentieth the amount, and if car breaks down, spare parts dey.

If you want a world class hospital in your state, be prepared to pay world class fees. Not N20000 for appendicectomy..lol.

We could, if our government did what saner climes did and focused on getting our economy free of corruption, free of all subsides so that we can attract more investment, and most importantly, made our economy dependent on manufactured goods and services

You know, like china, japan and so on did.

But your tinubu dey take loan, and dey do palliative.
