JUST IN: Nigeria’s revenue jumped 411% in one year – NRS reveals

https://politicsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Zacch-Adedeji.jpg

The Nigeria Revenue Service has declared that federation revenues have risen more than fourfold in just over a year, driven mainly by non-oil collections.

Figures released by the Revenue Service chairman, Zach Adedeji, show receipts surged to ₦3.64 trillion in September 2025, compared to ₦711 billion in May 2023, a 411 percent increase.

Non-oil revenue rose sharply to ₦1.06 trillion from ₦151 billion, while oil receipts climbed to ₦644 billion from ₦96 billion. Customs duties and VAT collections also recorded significant growth.

The agency disclosed it collected ₦20.6 trillion in the first eight months of 2025, representing a 41 percent year-on-year increase, and well above its baseline growth target. Its full-year projection is ₦25.2 trillion, compared with ₦21.6 trillion realised in 2024.

Adedeji, while briefing state house journalists on Tuesday, defended Nigeria’s continued borrowing, insisting the loans remain within budget limits, are serviceable, and targeted at long-term national projects.

The problem is this ASTRONOMICAL increase in revenue does NOT translate to an increase in the WELFARE of the average Nigerian.

In fact, one could argue that the increase in government revenue is INVERSELY proportional to the standard of living of Nigerians.

The MORE money they make, the more money they TAKE from Nigerians.

The increase just means more for the CRIMINALS to LOOT.

Tinubu's cabals must be SALIVATING!

So What exactly is driving the constant borrowing, and why has the debt threshold refused to shrink despite the increase in revenues?

When Nigeria’s revenue soared during the Gulf War under Babangida, the nation felt it through massive infrastructure growth and reduced borrowing. Under Obasanjo, rising revenue cleared and renegotiated the Paris Club debt. But today, despite claims of increased revenue under the APC-led regime, the only growth we witness is in carefully curated illusions and whe. We ask questions, we ate told we see only what we want to see. What an era.

Nostalgia is sweet, 2020 hindsight is perfect, under Babaginda & Obasanjo, weren’t u still suffering?

If u like don’t go & help yourself to prosper, they wait for The FG that cannot do anything for u.

PO is "finished". I said it in May. If BAT achieved those 4 reforms in just 2 years, then he has 2 years to make good revenue...can then fund welfarism....nobody will be able to win him in 2027. Trader money will be child's play.

Lagos was the captial, so the resources of Nigeria was used to build Lagos.

Without the resources of Nigeria, lagos will be a town of Area Boys, Thugs, Agberos, Touts & Alayes angry

That's why Most yoruba's are scared of Nigeria breaking up.

If Lagos was so good, they would love to be on their own.

convert it in dollars to know the truth. if you check, you will see that the money the make in a month has also increased but what is the purchasing power? and mind you, it is from May 2023 they said.

Make we tell ourselves the truth. As you can see, everything was quoted in naira.

Remove insecurities and self greed of many Nigerians then the impact of the economy will be felt. A nation where landlords increased rent by 100% or where bandits destroyed farmers activities. Once the issue of Banditry can be tackled and farmers return to farms without any fear, Nigeria will be great like never before

The issue is inflation. the purchasing power of naira is very low. they should use a stable currency to measure it and tell us the real value.

Lagos state was not the capital
These resources of Nigeria are resources of Lagos
Lagos has always been a net contributor giving more than it receives

THAT IS THE POINT

But has the standard of living of Nigerians jumped 411%? Or did it drop 411%? Anyway jump na jump, whether up or down.

Revenue collection is not an indication of good governance. Forget this IGR balablu by a certain section of the country.

I'll keep telling you guys from a particular part of the country... I don't know what they bewitched you over there with, but the amount of money, a government is able to beat out of it's people, does not translate to good governance, or good standard of living.

All the time IGR IGR...
