Many people wait till they sack them from work just to collect some benefits while some resigned and forgo thier benefits. Due to toxic nature of the company. But at this present economic of Nigeria, is it good to just resigned from work when you never see another one, Because of the toxic nature of the company?

govnor4551:I don't think you get benefits if sacked, while you might if you resigned with notice. And you'll get a better reference if you resigned, and it looks better on your CV than sacked. Regardless, there's no reason to stay working in a toxic environment (unless you have no marketable skills), because you weren't going to get anywhere anyway, and the company would likely be sinking and take you down with it. That said, your Maslow Chart shows it depends where one is in ones career and ones needs. |

budaatum:Depending on the circumstances that led to the person being sacked, employees get up to 2 months' salaries in Nigeria, especially if you haven't done anything that clearly warranted your sack. |

SmartPolician:We clearly have a language difference. Where I am we don't say sacked if you were retrenched or were surplus to requirements. A sacking must always be warranted, and reasoned, or you'd end up tribunalled and be forced to pay compensation. |

Retrenchment is different from sack. Sack is due to a misconduct and you forfeit certain benefits Especially in civil service, it is disgraceful, no gratuity, pensions etc When you resign or get retrenched you are entitled to benefits and serverance pay Key word One is honorable The other dishonorable |

Depend on different situations and employers policies. I have worked where if you resigned by yourself no payoff for you. But if they sack you because they don't like your face. They will pay you at least 2 months salary lieu of notice. So as per gentleman who want to build his career, I resigned and I lost the payoff package |

Both are good, Both are bad… depending on the circumstances, reputation, location and whatever their cost There are places and situations where if your contract is terminated (sacked) twice or three times in a space of 2 years depending on the length of contract, you must have made enough money that will take you for 5 - 7 years if you choose not to work anymore… depending on how much you your contract worth because you’ll be paid in full after termination There are places and situations where termination becomes a trap that you might even need to air your voice in court Being sacked and resignation attracts reasonable reason to convince your new employer and most likely you’ll not get hired by your new employer |
