I want to get a foreign used car that would serve me well as i am a civil servant that works from Monday-friday.

Please am looking at a good car car to buy but of lately am confused on Rx330 and Rav 4 which is more
Reliable
Durable
Low fuel consumption
Low/moderate maintenance.

N/B this would be my first car.

Both are nice cars with their Own different perks, I’ll suggest the rx330 though over the Rav4 only because of the model years which use 2az Fe engines which are known to burn oil. The rx330 also looks much appealing compared to the rav4 but in terms of maintenance and fuel consumption I the rav4 wins ( only for the 4 plugs variant)

Forget fuel efficiency concerns when you're discussing very old cars, they'll always run below factory spec due to wear and tear, the rav 4 has always looked like a toy to me, it is never a model I'll advise a man to buy, always looking like you have come to play or trying to get into a place unnoticed, the RX 330 wins in all aspects.

The highlander fit your condition. Lexus are luxury and expensive to maintain. Most people that drive lexus they usually disappear from radar and reappear again after some months. Meaning they park the car for sometime due to issues and struggling to maintain

I use the 2004 Rx330, ever since I bought it in May 2024 137,000miles, the check engine light has not come on.

I have meticulously maintained the car and it has never disappointed me by changing the timing belt and kit immediately I bought it.

Between May 2024 and now, this car is currently at 162,000miles and the check engine light has not come on.

Take care of the car and it would not disappoint you.


Very reliable and same as the Rav 4. You can never go wrong with both option.


The Rx330 just look appealing to me with its luxury interior and body style..

If you take care of the car and attend to every issue to the best of your ability.

The fuel efficiency would be great, I use the 2004 Rx330 and I average between 18mph and 20Mph for city driving and between 24Mph to 27mph for highway driving.

i saw from your posts that you use a honda you bought tokunbo so i wanted to ask a few questions:

Do i absolutely have to change the engine oil now immediately after purchase?
should i also change the transmission oil? The car uses a CVT

Hmm not quite ( or at least my own opinion) even the highlander shares most of it powertrain with the said Lexus, so basically no much difference on maintenance level, even suspension component both use quite similar if not the same strut setup, only difference to me is more options ( wood trim, different design ) so I believe he can maintain it
