Umar Sani to Otedola: Stop rewriting history on subsidy fraud
Umar Sani, a former aide to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, has described the recent comments of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola
as “hypocritical, selective, and a convenient rewriting of history.”

Otedola recently revisited Nigeria’s controversial fuel subsidy regime, alleging that corruption remains entrenched in the system.

In his intervention last week, Otedola accused members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), which he claimed to have founded, of sustaining a corrupt model built on subsidy fraud and obsolete infrastructure.

He further alleged that “over N2 trillion was siphoned through questionable subsidy claims under the Jonathan administration.”

Reacting in a statement posted on his X page, Sani said: “The subsidy regime predates Jonathan and lasted decades. It was entrenched under Obasanjo, continued under Yar’Adua, remained during Jonathan’s time, and persisted under Buhari with even greater opacity.

“To lay the blame solely on Jonathan is misleading, especially as Otedola himself enjoyed enormous privileges during the era.”

Sani noted that Otedola’s company, Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, once controlled up to 90 percent of diesel imports and benefitted heavily from the same subsidy framework he now condemns.

He recalled that Jonathan had set up the Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede forensic audit panel to unmask exploiters of the subsidy station, adding that attempts at deregulation were sabotaged by vested interests, politicians and profiteers.

“Otedola himself was spotlighted during the forensic panel’s work and the House of Reps ad-hoc committee on subsidy payments chaired by Farouk Lawan,” Sani said.

He referenced the Otedola-Lawan scandal, in which the businessman admitted giving marked money to the lawmaker, later claiming it was a sting operation.

“Rather than feigning moral superiority, Otedola should come clean. His comments, while critical of corruption, appear more like image-laundering than truth-telling. Nigerians deserve honesty, full disclosure and historical accuracy,” Sani added.

He urged Otedola to support a full independent inquiry into the subsidy regime across all administrations, including the periods he profited from, instead of offering “curated narratives.”

“Until then, his accusations amount to nothing more than a pot calling the kettle black,” he said.

We know how this people roll here in the ND. They lie just too much for cheap popularity and vain glory.

They always forget that most Nigerians kept records, keep records and are still keeping records of the lies deceit and division from Tinubu and his folks.

Suddenly Otedola is saying he "warned"Jonathan ön subsidy scam.

Ask this man Otedola where he was when thesame Jonathan removed it. Ask him if he warned his kinsma Tinubu not to protest at Ojota. grin

Did he Otedola release any statement to support Jonathan during the subsidy saga then. Did he also contact any media house to expose or say what he is now saying about Gej?

Thesame man who was involved in the scam talking about "warning" Jonathan about the subsidy scam

The attitude is really bad and tribal

That's why Nigeria is such a dysfunctional society
No accountability whatsoever
A man eats from a pot and turns round to condemn the pot once he's washed his hands
If not lack of fear of retribution, who writes in a book that "I was once the sole importer of diesel under subsidy regime and I did roundtripping and then in the next page: subsidy is fraudulent!" if not someone who is sure that he will even be celebrated for declaring that he was once stealing from the nation?!!
Re: Umar Sani To Otedola: Stop Rewriting History On Subsidy Fraud by Kastonkastroll(m): 6:17pm On Sep 24, 2025
The man was part of the subsidy scam. Infact he was one of the top beneficiaries of the subsidy scam. And all that talk is just to give dangote the power to monopolize the oil industry.

I read somewhere that his trucks are delivering free logistics to any station registered with his refinery. And I saw people's praises and all that Nigerian herd mentality; no critical thinking no critical questions asked.

If you deliver logistics for me for free, are you also going to monitor the price I sell the fuel to customers? Many franchise stations divert fuel to other smaller filling stations!!! This is no secret if you are in the oil and gas industry.

Like I always say nobody is fighting dangote and his refinery, infact many marketers are happy that the man is in the business. And as we can all see unnecessary queue have reduced at filling stations.

But the man dangote should stop creating imaginary competitions in his head just because he wants to rundown other people's business to actualize his monopolistic ambition.

Live and let live!

This was the same man who bribed a Federal Lawmaker pertaining this Subsidy investigation ish.. but when push came to shove, he claimed it was a set up and presented Camera and audio evidence.. the lawmaker was punished for receiving bribe but the man who gave the bribe walked scot-free... money🤔🤔

I find the second to last paragraph quite funny.

Why cry over spilt milk? The subsidy is gone and that's what matters.

In addition, I doubt Otedola benefitted from the subsidy as his diesel was sold at market reflective prices. I suspect the subsidy on diesel had been removed by then.

After all said and done, Femi Otedola still came out clean. It's glaring corruption will always fight back, hence this personal attacks on the person of Otedola from a pained loser, Umar Sani on behalf of the subsidy scam cabal who has indirectly decided not to allow the ex convict Farouk Lawan be after his release from prison.
Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) doesn't mean well for the masses of this nation. Dangote has all that is needed for everything to work and that's exactly what Femi Otedola is saying.

You ended up not saying why the free logistics shouldn't be praised especially when the union in charge of it are deciding to hold the whole country hostage.

Filling stations are meant to fix their prices, that's the meaning of deregulation. So please explain why Dangote's free logistics is more of a problem than a solution.

Otedola was also implicated
That’s why he set up the house of reps committee member, Farouk Lawal, with a bribe in dollars that took him to jail

There are few clean monies in Nigerian billionaires

Abubakar Audu helped set up Obajana cement for kogi state. He was a board member after they surveyed, registered Obajana cement as a company belonging to Kogi state, but invested Dangote as a strategic investor., but he collected everything. Yahaya Bello wanted to bring it up, the they burnt the kogi state house of assembly complex. Buhari called Yahaya Bello and Dangote to Aso rock and the case died down, Kogi people were short changed. When When Abubakar Audu died no body talked about how much of Dangote cement Obajana belonged to kogi state or what happened to Audi’s stake in the company. Dangote is also exploiting coal for power in Okobo and Okaba in the same Kogi state with heavy pollution, little infrastructure development and poisoned ground water and streams. Residents keep falling ill with black lung disease symptoms and dying.

Otedola’s father was governor of Lagos state, I didn’t say he stole, but if Nigerian politicians can be trusted, you can fetch water with a basket. The same father gave him the money to start his business

Adenuga, everyone knows it’s IBB’s money. His son was arrested by Obasanjo as he was a board member on glbacom and couldn’t explain how he got the money to invest that much

The list goes on and on

Lol, you people expected a nigerian businessman, a Nigerian elite, a son of a former governor, to see where people are making free money and feign blindness. Of course he took his share of the national cake, like they all do, however......

.... just like Nuhu Ribadu (who told you people how much he was bribed by Ibori), just like Shehu Sanni (who revealed all the nonsense allowance in the senate), just like Emir Sanusi (who revealed some of the rubbish in the banking sector) and just like Peter Obi (who revealed how governors spend security vote and other nonsense)....they at least had the decency to listen to their conscience small and tell you people some of the the truth, after enjoying their share.

If you people are looking for Gani Fawehinmi people, those who love their honour and your country so much that they will die penniless for you, good luck.

Even Sowore is a multi billionaire.

He also severally inflated the petroleum oil subsidy and setup the thieving House of Reps guys that were investigating him. Can you spot the difference and/or similarities here with what Tinubu did to package Buhari as the change messiah of Oshiomhole’s Association of Past Criminals, APC, when he was nothing but a shege master?

Tinubu rules out alliance with CPC

Prospect of a possible alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, was dashed yesterday in Kano as the leader of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu described CPC as parading “expired leadership.”

Tinubu told ACN supporters in Kano during the party’s Presidential rally that: “What Nigerians need now is a transformation in leadership” as obtained in the advanced economy.

The two-term Governor of Lagos State explained that the leadership of ACN was offering Nigeria the brilliance of Nuhu Ribadu who, he said, is in the class of Nicolas Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain, Medvedev of Russia and Barack Obama of the United States of America.

“What has CPC got to offer? We certainly don’t need expired leadership as we are offering the best in terms of brilliance, courage and patriotism in the class of Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain and Barack Obama of the USA.”

Tinubu’s position came on the heels of Ribadu’s declaration penultimate week in Kaduna when he hinted during a political rally of a joint ticket between the two opposition parties to confront the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The national leader of ACN criticised President Goodluck Jonathan for shying away from the national debate held last Friday, stressing that”that singular act exposed Jonathan as a coward who has nothing to offer.”

Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

Was Buhari living on the money he stole as military dictator, when he repeatedly asked us to make him our president but failed and challenged the results each time in the Supreme Court?

Did Buhari do a flip flop on subsidies, while pretending to be a politician of integrity huh

Buhari called subsidy fraud, but outspends predecessors

Abubakar Ibrahim
May 22, 2023

In a 2011 interview granted to a local television station, Muhammadu Buhari, who was seeking election as president, lampooned fuel subsidy payments, calling it a fraud. As he prepares to leave office on May 29 after an eight-year tenure, his administration has spent more on fuel subsidy than his three previous predecessors combined, BusinessDay’s analysis shows.

Subsidy payment data compiled from payments recorded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) indicate that the Buhari government may have spent over N11 trillion on petrol subsidies, an amount that could have built several schools, hospitals and is bigger than everything he earmarked for road infrastructure since he took office.

A breakdown of petrol subsidy payments shows that Buhari spent N11 trillion, Goodluck Jonathan spent N3.9 trillion, Umaru Yar’Adua spent N794 billion, and Olusegun Obasanjo spent N570 billion from 2005 to 2006, based on available data.

He benefitted from it, that was the whole point of Farouk Lawan trying to blackmail him on it, instead of serving his conscience ,constituency and Nigerians by reporting it.

But let me cut Farouk some slack, maybe like the other great people I mentioned earlier, he wanted to build his mansion in Ikoyi first, before remembering you all grin.

You cannot blackmail someone to the tune of millions of dollars if the person did nothing wrong.

Unfortunately for Lawan, Otedola turned "state witness" (as oyibo would say), and all his sins were forgiven.

Nigerians really have short memories sha.

It is Peter Obi thinking he won the election after coming third. He barely got 25% votes in 16 states.

That's how you bury your head in the sand.

He wants any chance at winning the next election, he has to be Atiku's running mate. Northerners will not vote for an Igbo man.

Tinubu went the Muslim Muslim route because he k ew if he picked a Northern Christian like Dogara, he would lose nicely like PO.
