FG Announces Tuition-free Education In Federal Science And Technical Colleges by Pakute(op): 7:30pm On Sep 25, 2025
In its bid to make technical education accessible to all Nigerian children, the Federal Government has announced tuition-free education in all Federal Technical College (FTC) across the country.

The government said this will cover other approved charges including boarding fee, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, prospectus and identity cards.

Others are stationery, clubs and societies, medical, vocational, utilities, security, website/e-result, Skool Media, extra lessons, and insurance.
This, it explained, is in line with its free-education policy and ensure that Federal Technical Colleges fulfil their mandate of producing skilled graduates for national transformation.

A statement late Wednesday by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, urged parents to report illegal demands directly to the Ministry through: Hotline: 08036576733, 08036373796; email: tse@education.gov.ng.

The statement quoted the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa as warning that no principal or administrator is permitted to demand unauthorized payments from parents or guardians.

It noted that the Minister has also directed that circulars reinforcing this policy be sent to all Federal Technical Colleges and parents.

Dr. Alausa clarified that while tuition and core expenses are fully covered, students of Federal Technical Colleges, as boarders, are expected to provide their personal items.

“This initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a pathway to human capital development.

By equipping youth with employable skills, the government seeks to strengthen national progress and competitiveness[/b].

“No Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education because of illegal charges. By investing in education today, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria,” Dr. Alausa affirmed.

The Ministry confirmed that monitoring mechanisms are in place to address any infractions swiftly.

The statement, however, clarified that students are to purchase their personal items including Sunday/Jumat wears, bathroom slippers, blankets, bedsheets, pillowcases, towel, underwears as well as 1 ream of A4 paper (80 grams) for registration as well as other personal items and cleaning materials.

Re: FG Announces Tuition-free Education In Federal Science And Technical Colleges by TimeManager(m):
This is the best thing that has happened to Nigeria in the last 50years. An advanced nation is a skilled nation but here, we have deliberately allowed our technical schools rot away. What we have is people who do anything to get a certificate as though, certificate is everything just because the standards had been set so low. A lot of so called graduates are unemployable who could have been better fit acquiring skills in technical education were pushed into studying courses that their IQ couldn't handle. There are a lot more certificated people in Nigeria rather than skilled workers who could have greatly transform many sectors of the country.
There is the fear of approving a contract of up to N2billion - N5billion to local contractors because you never know what to expect, the fear of poor quality of work. We prefer foreign contractors with better skill sets to handle majority of our projects. This gap, obviously is what had derailed us for a very long time. Thankfully, the Government has come with a deliberate effort to correct these anomalies and reset our technical institutions.

In less than a year of being appointed, Mr Alausa has been fantastic, coming up with creative ideas and technological driven innovations that would help transform all the facets of our Education and reset the system on global standards especially the priority of skill acquisitions among the youths towards a better economy. Honorable mention to Mr President for his renewed Hope Agenda.
God bless Nigeria.

Technical schools are very crucial to the development of this country by providing much required skilled labor for economic development.....I know people who have only technical school certification and are doing well for them selves, one is an AC technician who is a family friend and the boy is doing very well,I know another who is into horticulture also not doing bad......they both have no tertiary education.

They should monitor it properly because most NIgerians are their own problem just because they think nothing should be gotten free.
They will find a way of printing some kind of forms or whatever. They will tell you to collect the form with certain amount of money in order to access this laudable program.

Even UK that collects quadruple fold of tax you want to collect and also with a smaller population, has not been able to make tertiary education virtually free so likewise USA.

Good policy, but will the officers in those schools let it be truly free.

As federal government is announcing the policy in Abuja, some school administrators are also working out ways to introduce one illegal fee or the other.

By Monday, new illegal schemes will have been perfected and put in place. God help any student that tries to challenge those schemes.

The best thing that will ever happen to our educational system since independence to be honest. Quote me anywhere, if this program continues, that is if God prevents people like Obi from taking over to cancel such program, you will discover that within a decade no youth will ever near our universities again. The value of technical education in developed countries is huge. There are ready made jobs and the salaries are attractive. My fear is that 90% of the graduates from these technical vocational colleges will surely japa which will lead to brain drain. The Government needs to put a system in place to address this because it doesn't make sense to offer full scholarship including full board then the graduates will japa after training. If any graduate wants to japa after training then their parents should pay back all Government expenses. Period. Another issue is that the SW Governors especially lagos must make sure that they enroll their indigene first and stop acting like father xmas and accomodators to some hateful and ungrateful souls who will never allow such to happen in their region. Sanwo olu such take note.
