Lol my company sacked everybody that went on strike that was induced by the union body, and told everyone they are free to reapply, but have to write an undertaking that that they will not be joining the union again, that's how the union died a natural death.
Hi... I'm naive and wishing to learn.
Why are companies scared of unions for their workers which is meant to protect their interests?

Unionism even though has its benefits but it's more glaring that it's like a club whose main intentions has always been a way to wield unnecessary power over an organization that treats you right to start with. It is a shallow move. And any reasonable organic corporate body warns against it... But either way, they will either get a deal with this or perish. Unionism is a big no no in a growing economy... And I think this will even be a good incentive for employers to have a good clause before recruitment in their contract or company policy.. Joining union.. nonsense..like they are not already gainfully employed already.. Dem belle full.. Dem deh find beku beku up and down

That is why he has accused them of sabotage which in itself is a mistake and can be challenged in the industrial court.

Loool, the unions may be bad but the Dangote company is not better itself

They know what they are doing and what they want to achieve .

As far as I am concerned the unions are the lesser evil.

Once an organisation is going all out this way to prevent unions ,by experience we know how it ends.

Which other interest aside the company rule of service and terms of condition, which would have been serve to you before full engagement. If it is not favourable, leave and seek employment elsewhere. If the company did not keep to the terms they stated, you can take it up successfully without the union.

I personally see this as the cabal with pengassan as their proxy, against Dangote, just like I better pass my neighbour sellers sabotage our electricity.

They did breach a court order and their term of employment if they sabotaged his refinery as claimed, so...

It's simply because the companies do not have the interest of the workers at heart. Only the unions can force them to do the proper thing.

They know this thats why they are fighting tooth and nail. Not that the unions are saints themselves but they are the lesser evil.

But since they said there was a clause not to join unions in whatever agreement they signed they have to honour it.

Fake news! So if they want to sack you they will address the letter to all staff, instead of the individual they are sacking?

If i own a company and dont want my employees to join a union, I have the right
Unions sometimes are problematic and cause chaos.
Re: Dangote Refinery Sacks Nigerian Employees For Joining PENGASSAN by Slimm01: 8:29am On Sep 26, 2025
How can people want to join union in a private organization? The company has done you a favour by employing you and you want to join a union that will witch hunt them? PENGASSON that has been more of a disaster to the oil and gas sector. Most of the suffering of the masses came from these selfish unions who only think of themselves....and not the betterment of the country. Sack all of them. Nonsense!
Re: Dangote Refinery Sacks Nigerian Employees For Joining PENGASSAN by billyG(m): 8:29am On Sep 26, 2025
Do they join this union to be arm twist dangote refinery to be paying them humongous salaries or what?all we want is cheap fuel not endless strikes like ASUU.private universities that disallowed unionism. A 4yrs course is 4yrs.

This is very interesting. Unionism either die a natural death or continue to exist as a means to siphon resources from the people.
There are many things that will be tested as Nigeria 🇳🇬 gradually head to a possible better future.
I agree with you. The so-called unionists are pure saboteurs under the guise of love for our country. God punish the devil 😠

Person pack indians full for im company, you think say na play? That Dangote man is very cunning. He knows how to run the perfect monopoly. He only puts indians in top positions so he can easily dismiss them without drama when they fall out of line.

Nigerians are always at lower positions where they are weaker and at his mercy. Meanwhile, the government, regulators, and judges who are supposed to ensure he follows rules and processes look the other way.

Meanwhile, Dangote's Nairaland media crew will soon overtake the thread.

Fake news. lol! So obvious. How can they sack ALL STAFF? Unless they had replacement staff on ground to takeover from the ALL STAFF. Who is keeping the refinery running while the HR commences replacement. I expect Dangote to issue a statement soon debunking this fallacy.

PENGASSAN should leave Dangote alone. The Dangote Refinery is a private business, not a union-run venture. Instead of targeting him, focus on the government-owned refineries under your members’ management — most of which are non-functional.

If PENGASSAN truly wants to make an impact, push the government to revive Nigeria’s refineries. Ordinary citizens gain nothing from endless strikes; they only enrich union leaders while making life harder for the people. Nigerians need solutions, not distractions.
1. The union is not created to make impact on ordinary Nigerian. Nigerians, when tired, will rise up and make their voices heard.

2. Freedom of association is a right guaranteed by the constitution. It is Dangote who should leave his staff alone to express their fundamental right.

3. If you or Dangote has a problem with it, you would need to amend the constitution. That's where the focus should be.

Where was it quoted in the letter that he sacked them because of them joining Union. These private Company owners do know how to circumvent the law though. The only way Dangote can be held in this regard would be if there is valid evidence either by letter or audio from a top ranking executive or from Dangote himself there is no leverage for PENGASSAN to take action.
His tanker drivers are not in NUPENG, neither are his senior officers in PENGASSAN. So any strike would only favour him, as it grounds his competitors while his Refinery flourish. His competitors here would be those importing petrol as they are in the oil workers union.

Breaking news:

Reports currently circulating indicate that Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, Lagos has allegedly sacked all its local staff following a wave of unionization, with over 90% of the workforce said to have joined PENGASSAN (Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria).

This development has sparked widespread reactions, as many fear the move could trigger industrial unrest and escalate labor tensions within the company and across the oil and gas sector.
