Dangote is tasting the mulky water of unionism. aluta continua; victoria aceta.

Dangote cannot monopolise Nigeria oil sector the same way he monopolizes cement industry.
Re: Dangote Refinery Sacks Nigerian Employees For Joining PENGASSAN by hotseat: 8:56am On Sep 26, 2025
After a careful analysis and forensic scrutiny, Dangote is not a monopolist as generally perceived after all.

Firstly - cement production: apart from Dangote Cement Plc, there are others namely: Bua Cement Plc, and Lafarge Cement Plc who are the major players in the cement industry.

Other players include: IBETO Group, Mangal Industries Ltd, and Mandugu Cement.

This also applies to other sectors where Dangote is involved and one doesn't need to bore you listing them all.

On petroleum refineries in Nigeria, the same applies.

So, it's therefore strange to tag Dangote a monopolist!

The difference between Dangote and others is his doggedness and can-do-spirit which makes him stand out.

Nigeria has four refineries which are programmed never to succeed due to the nefarious activities of blacklegs in the industry.

PENGASSAN, NUPENG, DAPPMAN, etc are economic saboteurs who are holding Nigeria/Nigerians by the jugular.

This is why they see Dangote as a threat and would do all that is possible to sabotage him by surreptitiously bringing unionism into the company.

Dangote pays like "White" and his staff are not complaining.

Ask PENGASSAN and NUPENG how their so-called unions have helped in transforming Nigeria's refineries.

Those who have been laid off should go seek employment with those useless unions.

Dangote: Nigerians are with you gidigba 24/7!

Helloworld123:
1. The union is not created to make impact on ordinary Nigerian. Nigerians, when tired, will rise up and make their voices heard.

2. Freedom of association is a right guaranteed by the constitution. It is Dangote who should leave his staff alone to express their fundamental right.

3. If you or Dangote has a problem with it, you would need to amend the constitution. That's where the focus should be.
They should forget all this union drama it has clearly not helped ordinary Nigerians. Look at Dangote’s cement companies: he ran them without union interference and they’re performing far better than most government establishments weighed down by union politics.

Dragging unionism into a private business is unnecessary and destructive. Freedom of association doesn’t mean holding someone’s company hostage; the owner has every right to protect his business and let go of anyone disrupting productivity. Instead of stifling progress with endless demands and strikes, unions should focus on fixing the dead government-run refineries and other collapsing sectors where their influence has failed.

Private businesses that create jobs and contribute to the economy should be allowed to thrive without being strangled by outdated union tactics.

This man wants full monopoly on oil and gas in Nigeria. And most people ain't seeing it that way.

See union has to be formed. The government should call Dangote to other
Union is good but in Nigeria, it has been politicised. For example, ASUU may have issues with government, NUPENG that has no issue with government will say they're going on a sympathy strike with ASUU. That doesn't make sense. NLC will wake up overnight and say workers should go on strike for something that concerns maybe one person. Strike is now being used as a political tool. No one will Invest $20 billion and allow one man in his bedroom who did not even invest a kobo to control the invest

Monopoly is very wrong.

It happened to Rockefeller in the United States.

Hi... I'm naive and wishing to learn.
Why are companies scared of unions for their workers which is meant to protect their interests?
The union exists to protect workers from management excesses and to ensure workers have a fair wage and to prevent victimisation

I will give a very simple example.

I worked in a Nigerian run oil company

They were able to cancel union in some parts of the company

One year management made a bad financial decision

The group ceo met with us and promised no one would be sacked

The next thing the non unionised guys were laid off with one month severance pay

I was exited four years later. I was paid severance pay equivalent to my years of service

An even funnier story is that the ceo of my unit who had always bragged about how he had always been a contract staff and had done so well without a union was exited with a miniuscle exit package of 10m. The person after him the coo who had been a full staff and had been in union before took an exit package of over 80m.

That is just one aspect. When you are unionised you can only be immediately sacked if you are in gross misconduct or theft.

Don't let any of these paid shills or naive children deceive you

There is strength in numbers

You can break a single stick but it is much harder to break a bundle of sticks

But monopoly on the oil sector is what Dangote is fighting for just like he did in the cement factory.

Person pack indians full for im company, you think say na play? That Dangote man is very cunning. He knows how to run the perfect monopoly. He only puts indians in top positions so he can easily dismiss them without drama when they fall out of line.

Nigerians are always at lower positions where they are weaker and at his mercy. Meanwhile, the government, regulators, and judges who are supposed to ensure he follows rules and processes look the other way.

Meanwhile, Dangote's Nairaland media crew will soon overtake the thread.
How do you correlate monopoly to the topic at hand

I don't believe Dangote has any monopoly. Also, workers have a right to make a choice but that choice has to be before they're employed. In some company, you're given a form before entry. In this form, you'll tick a box ☑️ If you belong to a union or not.

Ok.

Even if that was the case he has the right to engage and disengage.

This is for the good of the masses.

NUPENG and PENGASSAN are cult that slow the industry down
I disagree with you. Freedom of association is enshrined in the Nigerian association irrespective of what. He didn't need to sack them if as long as they doing their job. Union or not, if he is treating them well and giving them a voice, there wont be any issue. I support dangote cos Nigeria need his business but we can't afford to give him absolute powers. Nigerians already made that mistake with Tinubu, absolute power corrupts

You are free to set up your own refinery are call the union to enlist your staff.

But with Dangote, chose between union and working for Dangote, simple. You can’t belong to both.

It's in such public outlets you'll know a lot of people don't have balanced ideas and understanding of things, that's why they talk from both sides of their lips...

The Nigerian law states that workers are free to associate or join unions and a company law states that it's workers are not to join unions....
Please which of the law is expected to take precedence?

Is this not the reason why the Fulani herdsman is protected by the law and the farmer whose crop is destroyed by the yhe herdsman is not protected by the same law.
It's this same that allows Muslims to kill anyone who they always alleged to blaspheme their god and Mohamed but when it comes from other religions they are arrested as a fast a jet speed.

Anyways what is the main purpose of unions in any organization of which those who are in higher management who stifle the necks of subordinates also benefits from the winnings of such Unions.

Many of these people applauding Dangote as a private business who makes profits are the ones who come out to complain that prices of foodstuffs and other commodities are on the high price...... please don't you want these businesses to make profits like Dangote and co!!!!!!

Some of you lots go to 3 Star eateries where you pay more than a 100,000 naira for a set course meal but you'll be pricing onion and pepper in the market with the old lowly market woman and making it be like you're being cheated...!!!!

If you’re not being treated well no one stops you from seeking employment elsewhere where you can get better wages and treatment. This is the true meaning of freedom of association

PENGASSAN will employ them.
Banks in Nigeria is running smoothly because their employees are controlled solely by the banks.
They want to bring confusion to someone multi billion dollar investment. Nigeria owns refineries they can work there.
That is why PENGASSAN members go to the bank to withdraw millions and the bank employees who earn peanuts ensure they get paid.

These are some of the reasons we don’t see enough investors coming into our country not because opportunities are lacking, but because of how issues are handled. We must be very careful with how the situation with Dangote is managed, as it sends a strong signal to the global business community. Other investors are watching closely, and the way this matter is resolved will either build confidence or drive them away.

Breaking news:

Reports currently circulating indicate that Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, Lagos has allegedly sacked all its local staff following a wave of unionization, with over 90% of the workforce said to have joined PENGASSAN (Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria).

This development has sparked widespread reactions, as many fear the move could trigger industrial unrest and escalate labor tensions within the company and across the oil and gas sector.

No company rules violate your Fundamental right in real sense ... You have exclusive right to resign or dont apply there

if i say all my workers must wear hijab,.... your main fundamental right is " choice" either work with me or say No and exit ... no be everything be fight

In this case court cant do much , because the affected employees are not existing Nupeng members, these are freshers even Nupeng cant protect them

where court have power to decide is, If Dangote employees were already registered to Nupeng and dangote acts against them cos of unionism action
