Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has been conferred with the Honorary Citizenship of the State of Atlanta, Georgia, in recognition of his exceptional leadership, political milestones, and remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s public image.
Obi, in a post on X, revealed that the honorary recognition was presented during the 2025 Black Congressional Week Events held in Washington, DC, United States.

The Honorary Citizenship of Georgia conferred on Obi is a prestigious, ceremonial award granted to foreign individuals for their exceptional contributions to the world.. The symbolic titles recognise an individual’s achievements and impact, serving as a gesture of goodwill and appreciation.
The former Anambra State Governor also participated in the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception, hosted by U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock at the U.S. Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, where he was encouraged to discuss African democracy and development.

He also had a deeply insightful conversation at an engagement hosted by Georgia Power, the largest independent power company in Georgia, which generates and distributes over 20,000 megawatts of electricity nationwide.

At another event, Obi urged One Voice Africa, a group committed to defending Black immigrant dignity, to take a greater interest in promoting good governance in Africa, noting that Africa’s potential is immeasurable if led by visionary and responsible leaders.

He concluded by saying the day’s events were strictly about learning, serving, and remaining committed to building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.

If there was no issue of forgery, Fraud and identity theft, there's no way a less popular University like Chicago state University will not love to identify with Teenuuubuuu the President of the most important black nation by giving him honorary degree and awards as an alumini..... But here we are, no reputed institution in U.S wants to associate, or risk their reputation by association let alone awarding plaques

What is big deal here? Same State of Georgia honoured Wasiu Alabi Pasuma (A fuji Musician) with the same state citizenship as far back as 2018..
