In a joint U.S.-Mexican operation last month, authorities tracked down a cartel leader accused of running a gruesome infant trafficking ring in northern Mexico, according to senior intelligence officials.

Martha Alicia Mendez Aguilar, known as "La Diabla," (The She-Devil) was captured on Sept. 2 after officials say the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, referred to by the U.S. as CJNG, lured a handful of pregnant women — often in vulnerable or impoverished circumstances — to remote areas.

Once there, CJNG traffickers allegedly performed illegal cesarean operations on the women, killing the mothers and allegedly harvesting their organs postmortem, and placing newborns into illicit markets, according to senior intelligence officials. The infants were then sold to couples in the United States for as much as 250,000 pesos or roughly $14,000 each, according to the senior intelligence officials.

Mexican authorities were tipped off by intelligence provided by the National Counterterrorism Center, under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. NCTC Director Joe Kent called the scheme an "example of what terrorist cartels will do to diversify their revenue streams and finance operations," in a statement provided to CBS News, crediting NCTC analysts with tracking Aguilar's patterns and locations, then coordinating with U.S. intelligence and Mexican partners on the ground.

Senior intelligence officials say the arrest involved support from the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI El Paso, Diplomatic Security Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with Mexican law enforcement executing the operation alongside "Fiscalia Especializada en la Mujer" or the Special Prosecutor's Office for Women. Aguilar remains in Mexican custody, according to senior intelligence officials. The investigation into the alleged trafficking ring remains ongoing.

The case underscores Washington's intensified targeting of Mexican cartels in recent years.

In January, President Trump signed an executive order directing the State Department to designate cartels and transnational gangs as foreign terrorist organizations, or FTOs. The State Department in February announced the designation for eight gangs, including CJNG.

The capture of "La Diabla" marks an expansion in the application of U.S. counterterrorism policy, with intelligence elements like NCTC now actively applying counterterrorism capabilities to target not only narcotraffickers, but also human trafficking rings and terroristic violence by groups like CJNG, notorious for brutal tactics and control over swaths of Mexico's territory.

Under the new FTO framing, U.S. agencies wield more expansive tools, including intelligence, sanctions, and military support to track down the cartels and their affiliates, beyond reliance on traditional criminal prosecutions. Critics of the approach have warned of overreach and unintended consequences, while proponents argue that cartels increasingly function like hybrid terrorist groups to pick up territorial control and expand trafficking networks.

According to NCTC, U.S. intelligence has added over 21,000 cartel members and associates into their classified terrorist database, creating over 35,000 identities related to the newly designated foreign terrorist organizations. Last month, the agency stated that 6,525 terrorists have been denied entry into the United States since the beginning of the Trump administration.

That's a really gross thing to do... Taking these infants away after murdering their economically and socially vulnerable biological mothers. These kids will NEVER get to know who their real parents or direct families are except there's a DNA database of Mexicans and/or Latinos which can be matched. It's just crazy what some insidious men and women doing to make quick and filthy money.

This is the same thing the "baby factory" and child trafficking notorious cartels headquartered in the South East of Nigeria (especially in Anambra and Imo States) have been doing for years and even operate this almost covertly outside the South East of Nigeria in places such as Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, and some Middle Belt and far-Northern States such as Kano. But fortunately, they keep getting caught in police sting operations. Children from several ethnic groups from Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, Edo, etc, have been stolen and separated from the families by these SE child trafficking gangs and taken back to either Anambra and Imo States to be sold and these criminal gangs are most active in these two SE States.

I've always proposed the death sentence via hanging, electric chair, and lethal injections for these kinds of child stealing and child trafficking crimes including drug trafficking and more. The death penalty during the General Muhammadu Buhari-led military regime of 1984 to 1985 had the death penalty for hard drugs trafficking which led to the execution of 3 men (Bartholomew Owoh, Barnard Ogedegbe, and co) back in the early 1980s and I remember that led to a drop in drug trafficking cases through the airport or wherever. The IBB-led military dictatorship from 1985 to 1993 discontinued those executions. The advanced countries of Singapore, China, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia aren't stupid for having the death penalty in their legal system to serve as a deterant.

The international fraudster, Obinwanne Okeke (aka Invictus Obi) who pretended to be a legit entrepreneur BUT scammed several U.S.-based organizations of over USD 11 million along with his gang was eventually arrested by the FBI at the Dulles Airport while he was trying to escape from the United States to Nigeria in August 2019 based on the very incriminating things he posted right here on Nairaland because he (Obinwanne) has an NL account. The intelligence agencies use advanced software to crawl the Internet forums and input suspicious online activities in their central crime database. If you're coming into any airport, you will get flagged down and sent back to your country.

Two British friends got blacklisted by the United States for posting what was deemed inciting speech on X and faced deportation for saying innocently that they were going to have "a blast" in the U.S. while on holidays. That word "blast" on X was a red flag to the intelligence agencies in the U.S. hence both British men were flagged down.

So, it's NOT correct that they (FBI and other intelligence agencies) do NOT bother looking on NL (or even other major online platforms such as FB, X, YouTube, IG, and more). Even the Nigerian intelligence agencies are on NL gathering Intel.
