what plan are you on? .. you are normally started with the 20mpbs plan , i too use the new 5g odu device and i am still on the 20mps plan and i dont get pass 20mps , although the signal i get is 4g + buts its not bad so far

I doubt. I just got my ODU today and at their office I did speedtest with it, I got 48mbps. The rep also confirm that the free one month is started with 50mbps.
I think you may have to check with your device if you're not getting up to the 50mbps.

You probably have the old ODU. The new one comes with the 50Mbps plan.

I'm on the 25k for 50mb/s monthly plan.

Also do it get better network than the normal router?

I think it is better to get that and save extra 5k monthly with higher mbps

I think it will if the building do not have a channel for passing cable. Mine will be installed tomorrow, I just registered it today.

Obviously the network strength is better compared to the 5g router also myself and other customers grilled them at their office today about that effectiveness of the ODU they assured us that this is way different, the installer I met also confirmed it to be better than other devices.

It was mounted on my roof, (face board). I removed it and kept it in my living room to make it easy to remove the sim whenever i want to. It comes with a back up battery that powers the device for 3 hours 30 minutes. It would have lasted more but the fact that it powers both the indoor and outdoor devices simultaneously. The device is good i must say because i get 5G network with the ODU which i don't get with my Airtel 5G Router.

This will be better than paying more for less speed.

I just hope there won't be any effect on the network strength if I remove it and put it indoor because I can't afford to break any wall here to pass any wire

it has no effect o. I still get the exact speed i get when it was on the roof. Note that the ODU does not perform magic. You have to be in a location that is good normally for Airtel then the ODU will complement it by boosting the network signal

so far it will work indoor, it is fine. I still get up to 30mbps in my location. Also it will be a win win for me since I will now be paying 25k monthly instead of renewing my current unlimited 20 with 30k. I will go for it tomorrow.

That's the news flying around in some quarters. I wasn't told that and there was no written agreement in any form i filled in the office that it was leased. The reason for sending down installers is simply to avoid the retail selling of the device. They are trying to avoid retailers selling above the 25k price. Infact before giving it to you, they would tear off every wrapper and unroll the cables. Infact no staff can take out that device without registration no matter who you are. They simply followed the footsteps of MTN fibre X and nothing more. If Airtel does not monitor the sales of the device, guess how much these hungry retailers would sell the ODU. 150k is certain

I don't think this is one of those greedy resellers 😁. When the device was introduced at first, it was sold for 50k but about 2 weeks ago it was subsidized by 50% making it sell for 25k now. It might be an old post

Yes, they open on Saturdays but close by 4pm.

As per the speed, as akinremedy has said i don't think it has effect if the antenna is in the room as far as there's good Airtel network in your area.

Lemme share my experience here.

I went to Airtel office with the unlimited 5g router because I was engaged online and needed significant amount of data, while at the office my speed test on the router was around 5.6/8mbps but when my ODU was registered and I was told to use it , the ODU antenna was on the rep desk inside the office and I did a speedtest, I got 48mbps in the same area.
So, I think there's a huge difference.

Maybe and maybe not. Technology may also be different. It also seems they're phasing out the 5g router.

That 5G router has been on "restocking" status in their apps for a long time.

This ODU is not available on their apps and my location is quite far from any official Airtel shop.

Physical Official shop is your best bet.

Installation of my device and that of a neighbour were done yesterday.

There was no need of breaking any wall as the cables were passed through our windows and we are still able to lock the windows. The connection cable is very tiny that it passed through windows without issues.

Only the outer walls were screwed just to hang the ODU.

Glad you're enjoying it too. The ODU makes a lot of sense. The ODU in stock presently is Esim. A friend bought it yesterday. Airtel does not want us removing the sim anymore

Are the devices the same though? As in, same ODU router, but the only difference is Esim?

Sure, It does make sense. Seems you're right, I havent seen the sim port, everything is sealed up and no screw self. That will be a sort of blow to some of us that are mobile.

you don't mean it. Please can i see the picture of the Outdoor Unit? There are 2 small white stickers that covers the screws. Are you sure there are no screws? Pls help send a picture

It is exactly as decsribed, the white stickers are plastics in my own and are not tearable. I will try later today to check again and take pics. Also on on admin site, the e-sim page has the attached which implies that e-sim was activated and the seed sim is not.

Don't do the 60mbps if you ain't getting good service on the 20mbps you will waste your money

wao! I just hope it's possible to use the physical sim. I really do not like that idea

you forgot that we Nigerians are unimaginable! People will buy multiple devices, hoard them till all Airtel offices are out of stock then start selling for 150k upwards. I tell people that even if you do not need the device, buy for keeps. It's almost free. Nothing is useless when it comes to Tech. It could later be used as a wifi extender whenever the need arises or gift it out.
