The leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been thrown into a fresh round of crisis following conflicting directives from members of both the State and National Working Committees.

Debo Ologunagba, the Party's Publicity Secretary in a signed statement, announced the postponement of the scheduled 27th September Congresses to elect new Party leadership in Plateau, Cross River and Kebbi chapters.. The NWC also directed the Emmanuel Ogidi-led South South Zonal Executive Committee to take charge from September 30th after the expiration of the tenure of the current Cross River State EXCO.

However, Venatius Ikem Chairman of the PDP in Cross River State defying the directive, insists that the Congress must hold on same date. Ikem, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Party and known ally of the FCT Minister has threatened legal action against the Party. He argues that the State Executive Committee possess the right to hold Congresses and National body to monitor.

In March 2025, 26 out of the 31 Cross River State EXCO members announced a vote of no confidence on Ikem, citing high handedness, corruption and leading the Party unilaterally as well as poor election outcomes in 2023.

To complicate an already vexed issue, two conflicting letters from the National Working Committee has been directed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Whilst the National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has signed a letter informing INEC of the postponement until a new date yet to be fixed, Samuel Anyanwu, the Party's Secretary has directed another letter to INEC urging Damagum's letter to be ignored and the Congress to proceed.

Anyanwu can only be in the news for dragging, arguing and probably fighting.

Wike will still use the court to defeat them. That is how toothless PDP has become. Until wike is expelled from PDP, that party can never make progress

PDP is a shameful, Damagun is the nemesis of the party.
Wike imposed him on the party when he battled Iyorchia Ayu to submission and now he is finding it difficult to wrestle free wike.
A serious party chairman cannot be a weakling like Damagun

What exactly is PDP's problem, why can't they come together and manage whatever crisis they have?

You should know that Tinubu will crush anyone that tries any nonsense in APC

Under the electoral Laws as amended, only the National secretary has the powers to write INEC on state congresses.

Did they say that Wike wrote any of the letters? Why can't you leave the innocent man alone?

Lol. PDP house of commotion. No wonder His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State is finalizing his plans to dump the party.

Just like Governor Umo Eno stated during his defection to APC, it's political suicide for any public office holder on the platform of PDP who desires to seek reelection to continue to remain in the party; Damagum will say one thing, Anyanwu will say another. That's not a sign of a responsible political party!

With all this their drama playing out with no end in sight, I expect more PDP Governors and other elected officials will begin to rethink their decision to remain in the party.

Do you know that Wike wrote to PDP NEC before accepting ministerial position from Tinubu? You may not like him buh he always handicap them.

Since they don't want to expel Wike and his gang this is what they should expect

The PDP chairman has just woken up to Wike.

Wike does not stay in a place where there is peace. He knew he was going to lose his grip on the party that was why he foisted Ayanwu on the party.

The thing is,the real game has just started. Wike is gradually losing out. The chairman is no longer with him and this means that he might be expelled soon.

A very infantile and utterly messed up political party peopled by babies in adult bodies.

You mean self inflicted challenge and they have failed to learn from the mistake since 2015?
If PDP is really serious to become a formidable party as you asserted, what is Wike still doing in the party?
So, do they expect the rulling party to create and implement strict disciplinary unit for them?
These are the salient questions we must ask ourself. Recently, Wike was boasting about how he singlehandedly sacked the former chairman. Is that a party to rely upon in the next election?
It is a shame that, a national party has been reduced to its shadow by one individual who should have been expelled over 2 years ago.
