Many Nigerians have condemned the lyrics of popular fuji musician, Taye Currency, at the coronation ceremony of Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

DAILY POST reports that Oba Rashidi Ladoja was installed today as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Performing at the ceremony, Taye Currency, who was the guest performer, triggered backlash following his song lyrics, “were la fi n wo were,” meaning “we used insanity to cure insanity.”

The controversy trailing the lyrics has pushed the musician to the top trends on the X platform.

The installation of Oba Ladoja came two months after the death of the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Dignitaries at the event included President Bola Tinubu; Governor Seyi Makinde; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Adeoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale; and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade.

Some of the criticisms on X compiled by DAILY POST are as follows:

@babasafeez: “It’s obviously political. Why picking Taye over Osupa or K1 for coronation, even Paso and Malaika will deliver well. É sha ma fi werey ghade lo”.

@fesooyebade: “It was an historic disappointment, an embarrassment to Ibadan indigenes at home and in the diaspora. The songs rendered were not fitting for such a historic occasion. I am certain there are thousands of musicians of Ibadan origin who would have delivered a stellar performance”.

Na so the guy dey sing mannerless song, that's not the first time, he was invited sometimes ago and he was singing - gbogbo wà nì criminal.( All of us are criminals )

He knew what he was saying jo. But I guess the king did not ask him for such song.

Both MC and musician spoilt show and killed the momentum of that coronation.
There are personalities who could anchored such glamorous event with big personalities such as President in attendance. Olalomi Amole, Oriyomi Hamsat, Kola Olotu and many more Ibadan indigens could be better.
Taye Currency? For such occasion? What an insult. He doesn't have education, no exposure, so what do you expect from him?
Saheed Osupa or Yinka Ayefele could have been a better option

Tinubu would like the lyrics because it has agbero meaning

What exactly did he say wrong? Did he insult anyone? He came to sing his songs and thats just one line

They actually got what they paid for. If not, they could have laid hands on more reasonable and matured minds than him.

So you see Saheed Osupa, KWAM 1, KSA, Ebenezer Obey e.t.c, you did not call.

You now went to call Taiye currency because he is from Ibadan. He has now embarrassed you

Over there they worship anything even street urchins get fans

I think the mistake came from Makinde. He was overwhelmed by the caliber of people that came in. Taye Currency has been political musician to Makinde all the while.
