South East Governors Are Pushing For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release – Otti by attackgat(op): 8:37pm On Sep 27, 2025
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said governors of the South East are in discussions with the Federal Government over the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking during his monthly media interaction with journalists on Thursday, Otti disclosed that the region’s governors were making efforts behind the scenes to secure Kanu’s freedom.

Answering questions on the IPOB leader’s fate, he said: “The information and assurances are not for public consumption. As his governor, I am in the forefront of ensuring that he comes back. The South East governors are also involved. So, we are discussing.”

The governor, however, noted that beyond the Kanu matter, his administration remains committed to strengthening security across the state, especially as the year draws to a close.

“We will also continue to support the agencies, supporting the police, the army, the DSS, with little things to make their lives easier. We are also renovating and expanding the prison, not that we are expecting more criminals to be sent there,” he said.

He commended security agencies for maintaining relative peace in Abia, but urged residents to remain vigilant during the ember months.

“The state has been relatively peaceful. I want to use this opportunity to thank the security agencies, the army, and the officers who have worked and continue to work very hard. But it is never over yet. We have just launched into the ember months. And we all know what goes with ember months. I am using this opportunity to call on all of us to be more security-conscious. To report whatever we see. We should not keep quiet. A large part of the success in security is information. We have our own ways of gathering information. But if you also support what the government is doing with information, it will be very helpful.”

None of them is pushing for anything, infact they are the reason that man is there this long, once they set him free now, he will take their shine away from them.

Lies. They are the same frustrating the freedom of Kanu after SEDC was approved.

The politicians from SE who claimed they are close to president Tinubu, why haven't they used their Influence to beg for the freedom of Kanu?

I hope the leaders of other regions are taking note.
Let them stop hiding in your region. They cannot be openly supporting Kanu and be hiding in your region where you are working hard to protect.

This is not a political matter but one of criminality.

You can not interfere with an ongoing criminal case before the courts.

Same KANU that has thrown your SE into chaos is whom you want to lobby the FG to halt the ongoing criminal case that is slated for final ruling on 10th October?

Let the court decide if KANU is guilty or not.

If found guilty, KANU should appeal his case up to the Supreme court and if that fails, he should apply for clemency .

Anything outside this is a travesty .

Well, considering that you APC guys dont care that Tinubu has released five thousand Boko haram this year, offered bandits peace deal, and negotiates with terrorists....

Its easy to see that APC only remembers insecurity, only if it involves the the South-East. Thats how they neglected the rest of Nigeria and made the country insecure

Let's ask the bandit kingpin below, who is drinking beer in his house, dictating the terms of his peace deal, still fully armed, about what he thinks Nnamdi Kanu who was kidnapped from Kenya to stand trial in Nigeria? grin grin grin grin

He knows you are emotional species that gets triggered before thinking. He just said that to remove hook from his head. Is it today we just hear that? We hear that since Buhari era. For how long will the effort yield? If he is free, they will quickly claim responsibility. If they are making effort is not the problem, when will effort yield? Even Otto himself acknowledge, peace in the state; no one wants Kanu to be released and begin disruption of peace in the state.

Kanu that leads to killing of many and wasted many youths will be judged and send to prison. He will.be released tomorrow when he becomes 76years old and found not to be able to make more trouble, then ; his traveling documents will be ceased. You can make him the next igwe of you wish for remaining left over of his ruined life he caused for himself, but he can't travel outside Nigeria again. He must have even learnt from ekpa

He also promised to go to Abuja and be head a sitting president. that's treason.

This continual denial of Kanu's criminal actions is the same thing Northern Elites did with Boko Haram because they feared the public will hate them.

If the government can be negotiating with Northern terrorists who have killed several soldiers, raped women and forced some into marriage, wasted farmers and destroyed communities and public infrastructure, then they have no moral rights to detain for a long time a man who has never lifted a gun to kill someone before. This, my friend, is common sense. He should be released on the basis that he would stop promoting seccession. If he refuses, they should keep him there.

Instead of pushing for a railway in the South East, or a sea port. i believe the governors can come together to construct these. Or at worst, come together to push with your senators for a change in the constitution that allows regions to leave Nigeria. Alas, we can only push for release of lamidi. Something is terribly wrong somewhere up there.

Buhari did not arrest kanu cos he insulted him. Kanu was arrested because of the atrocities he was causing. Imagine creating an army in a sovereign country. Imagine instigating his followers to kill army and police and even civil defence and road safety.

It's sad that the Nigerian judicial process takes so much valuable time. For a serious case of treason it's laughable the tyrant has not yet been convicted. Even if it is agreed that this govt has failed in some regard, I however applaud the govt on the continued detention and eventual conviction ( life or death) of the coward and terrorist bandit nnamdi KANU. The SE govnors are wise enough to let the beast remain in it's cage. His life is in no way better than the countless lives lost in the SE due to UGM, ESN / IPOB activities.

This issue is for sure that Tinubu will use it to hold the south east governors by the jugular. Deliver your states for 2027 and get MNK in return. That means he is not coming out until after 2027 is won.
