A fresh crack has emerged in Rivers politics as loyalists of former governor Nyesom Wike were noticeably absent at the interdenominational church service organised by the Rivers State Government to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, News360 Nigeria reports.

The absence of Speaker Martins Amaewhule, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the 23 Local Government Chairmen sparked criticism from a close ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who questioned the sincerity of the much-publicised peace deal in the state.

In a social media post, the ally wrote: “Saying there is ‘peace’ goes beyond mere words, actions must follow.

The interdenominational service organised by the Rivers State Government to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary is currently ongoing, yet it has been boycotted by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, members of the House of Assembly, and the 23 LGA Chairmen.”

“What exactly do these people want? Mr. President should pay close attention to developments in Rivers State, so that no one will mislead him in the future into thinking that Governor Fubara is the problem.”

According to him, the event was attended by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, the state’s Chief Judge, and heads of security agencies.

However, the absence of the Assembly Speaker, lawmakers, and council chairmen was seen as a deliberate snub.

He concluded with sarcasm, writing: “Peace indeed 😂.

A weakling like Fubara is not fit for political office. One can now see why Wike selected him. Even a woman without immunity challenged the senate and presidency and floored then, then a governor is shivering like a scared cat.
