I only said it is unwise for coaches to think having more defenders prevent them from conceding. Using instances like i have stated before.


In UCL finals in 2012, Jupp Heckynes led us in the 83rd minutes,removed an attacker brought in a defender to keep his lead but still ended up conceding.


In 2009 ucl semi-finals against Barcelona, we were leading 1- 0, Hiddink thought he could protect our lead,he removed Drogba in the 66th minutes and brought in defenders towards the ending of the game but still ended up conceding despite having a player advantage than Barcelona.

In 2013,super cup,we were leading pep guardiola's bayern with a man down. Hazard score the goal. Mourinho thought to protect his lead,removed him and brought in a CB,we had 3CB and we still conceded in the last minutes.

If these instances are not enough to convince you that it is unwise for coaches to bank on defenders to help them protect their lead then i don't know what else.
