RE: DR TANKO YUNUSA AND HIS POLITICS OF DESTRUCTION

The National Youth Wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) views with deep sadness and outright disappointment the recent outbursts of @YunusaTanko, who parades himself as the Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide. His statement is not only deceptive but also self-serving, designed to derail the unity of our great party at a time when Nigerians are yearning for credible alternatives.

It is important to remind Nigerians that Dr Tanko has consistently failed in every political engagement he has ever undertaken. Records are clear that he could not deliver his own polling unit to Mr Peter Obi during the 2023 general elections. How can such a politically irrelevant individual now attempt to dictate the direction of a party he has never attended a single meeting of? His voice does not represent Mr Obi or the true spirit of the Obidient Movement, but his selfish ambition to remain visible in the political space.

The earlier arrangement that everyone could remain in their various parties while supporting the coalition was a strategic move against the weight of incumbency. That phase has passed. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has now recognized the leadership of the coalition under the ADC platform. The matter is settled. Every genuine stakeholder who believes in this project must now formally register with the ADC. There will be transparent, fair, and justified primaries for all aspirants. Nobody should be misled by Tanko’s antics.

The ADC is a coalition built on sacrifice, loyalty, and collective vision. The youth wing has worked tirelessly across all six geopolitical zones, investing time, energy, and resources to create a platform where all stakeholders can thrive. Dr Tanko’s reckless comments Weakens the momentum of our faithfuls, insult our structures across Nigeria, and expose him as a man more concerned with protecting his fragile ego than advancing democracy. @PeterObi has consistently said he is out for the betterment of Nigeria and not for personal interests. He has maintained that he is contesting because it is the turn of the South, but as he has wisely stated, when the party comes to that bridge, we will cross it. This clarity has never been in doubt. Dr Tanko must be called to order. It is not too late for him to come back to his senses and resist being used to undermine a people’s movement that is greater than his personal ambition.

At the end of the day, the part in bold is what the Atiku bloc of ADC will tell Peter Obi irrespective of how things play out. The attack on Yunusa is a coded attack on Peter Obi. Tanko Yunusa is just the fall guy for now.

If Obi pulls out today, that’s what they will tell him. If he stays and they lose, that’s what they will tell him just like they did to Ifeanyin Okowa. If he stays and somehow they manage to win, that’s what they will still tell him when it is time to push him aside and make the government an all northern affairs. The coalition is already a concluded matter. Atiku leads, Obi fellows. All the brohaha has no effect on the both parties who worked hard to put their differences aside. None will go it alone

If that if the case, Atiku and Peter Obi should be bold enough to tell their supporters to cease and desist from the media exchanges. What’s the point watching your followers fight each other when you’ve both agreed to work together?

It is the beauty of politics. It won't lead to violence. Atiku can't go it alone, obi can't go it alone. The brickbats ain't affecting atiku and obi but an encouragement as their supporters are alive and active for a new Nigeria.
