PENGASSAN Shutdown Dangote Refinery Sparks National Uproar by Iexclusivenews(op): 6:26pm On Sep 28, 2025
PENGASSAN has slammed the brakes on Dangote refinery over mass layoffs
Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has shut down operations at the multi-billion-dollar Dangote Refinery, citing the unlawful dismissal of over 800 Nigerian workers.

The union claims these workers were sacked for joining PENGASSAN, triggering what may be the most consequential labor standoff in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector this year.

The shutdown, which began early Sunday, affects not just the refinery but also the fertilizer plant. Train Two is completely offline, while Train One operates at 60% capacity. The diesel plant remains operational, but for how long?

PENGASSAN’s emergency National Executive Council meeting led to a nationwide directive: all members must withdraw services effective Monday, September 29, 2025.

The union has also ordered a halt to all gas and crude supply to the refinery, urging International Oil Companies (IOCs) to ramp down production.

General Secretary Lumumba Okugbawa accused Dangote of replacing Nigerian workers with 2,000 foreign nationals, mostly Indians, calling it a betrayal of national loyalty and a violation of labor laws and ILO conventions. https://iexclusivenews.com.ng/

The northerners are watching how their brother is being victimized and the president is not doing anything about it.
This is one industrialist that should be encouraged and protected at all cost, but it seems the authorities prefer the days of massive importation of fuel by tank farm owners.
For sure this will have both economic and political consequences

If Nigerians don't rise up against this criminals called PENGASSAN, they would take us back to the dark days. Of what use are they that in the oil and gas sector that for the past 20 years, nothing have been achieved that is beneficial to we the Nigerian people if not for there own selfish interest alone.

What I think is that the current government is not protecting entrepreneurs in Nigeria. Did I conclude they're indirectly using the Union to threaten entrepreneurs by the ballz?

Those workers are not genuine Dangote workers but PENGASSAN Insiders and informers to bring Dangote refinery down just like what they been doing to FG, collecting subsidy monies without NNPc refinery not working throughout the years

Seems you have comprehension problem. When I said if Nigerians don't rise up, how is that waiting for government. Where did I in my comment say Nigerians should wait for government.

They can't create a single job but find it easy to kill jobs. Would they have had anywhere to shut down if the refinery was not built?

Imagine how investors would see this

There are many factories in Nigeria which are oppressing workers yet they turn a blind eye
