The Federal Government has called on the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, to reconsider its proposed strike scheduled to begin on Monday over its dispute with Dangote Refinery.


Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, made the appeal on Sunday in a statement, stressing that the Ministry has taken steps to bring both parties to a roundtable in order to prevent the dispute from escalating further.

According to the statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour, Patience Onuobia, the minister disclosed that invitations had been extended to both the leadership of PENGASSAN and the management of Dangote Refinery to attend an emergency meeting in his office on Monday for the conciliation of their dispute.


“The Ministry of Labour and Employment through the Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations has extended invitations to the leadership of PENGASSAN and the management of Dangote Refinery to attend a conciliation meeting in my office on Monday.

“I appeal to both parties to be mindful of the importance of the petroleum sector to the country, being the core of her economy. A strike will not only lead to heavy revenue losses by the country but also cause more hardship and difficulties for Nigerians. Consequentially, it will have adverse impacts, both on economic stability and national security,” he said.

Don't know why unionization of a private investment is now turning to an issue that might cripple activities within the nation
The cabals want to continue dictating everything that happens in Dangote refinery.
The FG ,should give stern warning and ensure no threat to fuel supply.

Better for both parties, they should find a level ground and make some compromises for the betterment of the country

There are more Nigerians outside and inside this country who know how to run refineries efficiently and profitably.
The president needs to put them on a leash, they are trying very hard to jeopardize the economy and discourage real foreign investors who are interested in Nigeria. 69 refineries are coming online in the near future.

What will Tinubu, Wike, Akpabio, Amaechi, Peter Obi benefit if Nigeria economy becomes stable and better ?

All of you commenting do not know anything that is going on in Dangote regarding Nigerians workers there. Their welfare is extremely poor. While you guys a jumping and clapping for Dangote, the staffs are very unhappy. You won't write all these if you were working there. Dangote sacked all 85 staffs that helped Dangote during the start up. After a successful start up the rewards for all of them was sacking them then replacing all of them with Indians. He under pays his workers. Now he has sacked over 800 staffs for joining Union. Where is there no Union in the world. Lack of knowledge and information make you guys speak this way.
Union is what check the excesses of employers otherwise they will pay workers peanut, with disregard to safety and terrible working conditions.
If Dangote staffs or any other company subject their staffs to extremely bad working conditions based on risk assessment. It's Union that can intervene otherwise terrible CEO's will take advantage of such loopholes to stifle workers and they won't have a say.

Pengasson members have vast experience in obsolete, non functional and non profitable refineries. E get why Dangote refinery sack them, cases of sabotage where mentioned.

E dey pain them as one dey work. Last last not a drop of refined product go enter Nigeria. Rather na naija go export product go Europe.

The bolded means their aircrafts automatically has the endorsement of jet a1 (aviation fuel) from Dangote refinery. Last year they produced 150 aircrafts this year the target is 150 aircrafts. That is 300 aircrafts with endorsement to fly with products from Dangote refinery.

When I see this kind of post I just laugh. It's easy to spot an ignorant post. Probably you may not be working for someone because this type of post is high in ignorance. What kind of talk is this. Just imagine after working in a place for 25 years then your employer can just decide to fire you without no benefit because he has the right to hire and fire. Even federal or state government do not have that right. Even workers protection is very poor in Nigeria because you can't try some things going on here in Europe or USA. They will sue you and you will pay big. They are rules of disengagement those rules are to protect workers. Here in Nigeria you see people employing and sacking for no good reasons. Some dubious employers that have become their style because nobody is fighting for such vulnerable people in the society and you have normalised such wickedness in your post. Think beyond the box.

Dangote has been running his refineries because pengassan members in the oil rigs have kept the oil and gas flowing.

Wether it's a private investment or not, all workers have right to association. You might have no idea of this but even in banks there are unions. The refinery will not consume its products by itselfs so it must respect workers rights

the pengassan do they know how to operate oil facilities,how comes the four of our refineries they have been manning have not been functioning for decades? One man has come to do what the whole of them can't not do
