The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the Rivers State Pensions Board with immediate effect.

The governor said the office of the State Accountant General will handle the functions of the Board until a new board is constituted.

This was contained in a Government Special Announcement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday evening by the State Head of Service, Mrs Inyingi Brown and obtained by our correspondent.

The four-paragraph statement directed members of the former board to hand over all properties and assets of the board in their possession to the Director of Administration of the Board.

The statement reads, “The Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Rivers State Pensions Board.

“Consequently, the Office of the Accountant General of Rivers State, henceforth, will handle the functions of the Board.

“Members of the defunct board are by this notice advised to hand over all properties and assets of the board in their possession to the Director of Administration of the Board.

“His Excellency, the Executive Governor, will in due course constitute a new board to manage the affairs of Pensions.”

PUNCH Online reports that this is the first major action or directive the governor has taken since his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu on September 18.

It's funny seeing him trying to use "strongman" tactics and inducement to force support in the Southsouth. Even if Fubara decamps, Rivers votes aren't guaranteed because the people know it's based on duress. In the North, he's massively splurging cash on Arewa influencers to promote him but most of them will still end up "voting wisely". In the Southwest, he has commissioned Conservatives to go from radio station to radio station, using ethnicity to try to shore up support. "The guy is gone!", for real.

I hope emperor Wike is in approval.

No need of all these again Fubara. At least for the next 2 to 3 months calm down analyse the whole situation when you are on suspension, then come up with something better stop listening to ipob and obidient they have ruined their state and hide in Lagos, Abuja etc and they are looking for customers who to destroy their state, wake up Fubara problem nor dey taya you?

Fubara is hasty about revenging Wike. He should've waited to get his second tenure before taking action. As it is now, his second tenure isn't even guaranteed. It appears he wants to forfeit it though.

With the boycott of the Rivers LG election, Tinubu now knows that the people of Rivers are more with Fubara than with Wike, the rigged results aside. Elections are harder to rig with apathy or mass disaffection. It is why Tinubu has become more openly cosy to Fubara. Wike's final assignment is to deprive PDP from fielding any formidable candidate like Jonathan. Failure to do so will lead to Tinubu dumping Wike.

If you deduct the votes Tinubu won in Rivers in the last election and add it to Peter Obi. It still wouldn't have made Obi President o!. 😁
