I've been following the saga btw DANGOTE and PENGASSAN,

Is it Dagote who don't want his refinery Nigeria employees to unionize, thereby laying them off, OR PENGASSAN who insist the refinery staff must be unionized.

Can we have professional opinions on the matter.. Cos this saga may really affect Nigerians..

Both of them are self centered. They care mostly about themselves without considering the masses

It's not must to join any union , as private business owner I can hire and fire anyone that I suspect want to sabotage my business.

Dangote is right. Those other ones na hoodlums and bandits.

Pengassan didn't insist or has no right to insist that the staff of any company should be unionized

Unionism is voluntary for the staffs

Where the problem lies is when you sack workers because the joined union. Nigeria labor acts frown on that, one of the 7 critical pillars of UN ILO (Article 23 No 4) frowns on that

So rephrase your question
Is pengassan right to insist that dangote must allow his workers who are willing to join union join without fear of Victimization?

You both have a point. But why just fire an employee at will without fair hearing from him/her.. Just like 800 employees were fired just like that. I think their rights should be protected as well

But I thought Dangote said his workers are free to unionize.. so why sack them?

I think you're right on this. If either parties have the larger people interest at heart this matter shouldn't have denegerated to this level

I remember in 2014 when I was suddenly fired by an employer just like that without any credible reason whatsoever, after my commitment.. it really affected me.

I think employees should be protected from these sudden actions.

As a small scale employer now, I won't just sack my staff without any justifiable reason. Even at that I'll give them at least month notice

Yarimo, how do you mean by "kill"? I thought Dangote already agreed with FG that his staff can unionize if they wish. Im confused at his action

didn't you read where he said they want to sabotage his business? isn't that same sabotaging making Nigeria refineries not to work despite huge amount of money spent ?
