If we’re being real, Nigerians dey love familiar brands. When it comes to phones, na TECNO, Infinix, iPhone and Samsung wey dey reign. But worldwide, other brands dey trend big time.... like realme, Oppo, Vivo. For example, realme dey ship millions of units every year in Asia and Europe. Same specs wey Redmi dey offer, realme dey give too, sometimes even cheaper. So the question be: Why we dey always stick to only the popular brands? Na lack of awareness? Na fear of “unknown” brands? Or na just say we no wan take risk? Who here don try one of these “newer” brands before? Share your experience make we reason am. |

Many consumers in Nigeria prefer sticking with brands they know because trying a new one involves risk. The risk isn’t just financial, it can also be about durability, after-sales support, spare parts, reliability. If a phone breaks and you’re using a well-known brand, there is more confidence someone can fix it, or parts are available. And again known brands are more likely to have service centres, spare part availability, good warranty support. If you buy a less known brand, even if the phone works well initially, repair or maintenance might be hard or expensive. |

Who popularity help, to get a quality smartphone from a popular brand now is far more expensive than getting quality smartphone from a new brand ote author=aquarius15febb post=136947540]If we’re being real, Nigerians dey love familiar brands. Honestly, once there’s a good warranty and reliable customer support, I don’t mind trying new brands. realme has really impressed me lately. |

If there's no proper awareness for growing brands, I don't think Nigerians will trust to use them, |

What I hate about this phones is their cameras. iPhone 6 that's long before all these phones came out still have a better cam. Check all these phones you listed have wack cameras. The best android phones so far is Samsung/Google pixel and HTC which was discontinued. The rest is wack with their wack cameras. |

PapaNnamdi:The real issue here is you're a poor handler of mobile phones. I've used three Umidigi phones since 2019, the new one always meets the old one functioning properly without repairs. |

I think it’s more of an after sales thing; the availability of spare parts and the rest. Same goes for cars, Nigerians would rather go for the common brands;Honda, Toyota,Mercedes Benz, just to name a few….because the parts are readily available most of the time. There are other car brands like the Citroens,Lotus,Seat,Daihatsu and so much more but their replacement parts are not as readily available. 🤭 |

Most people just stick to what they know. Once they’ve used a certain brand for years, they don’t want to risk their money on something unfamiliar, even if it’s better. |
| Re: Why Do Nigerians Hardly Try New Smartphone Brands? by StellaGirlie: 12:18am On Oct 05, 2025 |
Trust is everything in this market. New brands need time, local reviews, and visible service centers before Nigerians start believing in them. |

Funny thing is, many of these “new” brands now offer better specs for less money but until people around you use it first, you won’t want to be the test subject. |

aquarius15febb:fear of tye unknown was my problem. I'd rather trust my money with something more popular until they lost the plot. They became more expensive and they just packed it with unnecessary features. My cousin was the one that mentioned this new brand realme to me and tbh I doubted. But the price of the C61 caught my attention. "Phones can be this cheap in 2025?" And we have been enjoying the phone so far. So much wahala. Good battery life and I can even play games on it without lagging. Life no suppose hard fr |

It's very easy to just buy any Phone you see online. But the most issues comes when you have an issue to repair or change a part in the Phone. It happened to me in 2019. After that time, I just switched to a brand I can easily find their parts in Nigeria. Brands like TECNO, you can easily find their spare parts or accessories anywhere in Nigeria. So it's not really about fear of the unknown...omoooooohhhh if I see better Phone outside I go buy oooo, as long as I no dey use am for Nigeria. If not, one day I'll spoil or screen go bad and I'll just package my it and put inside my wardrobe |

Nigerians are typical examples of if something dey work for us before even if it doesn't do so again, let's keep doing it since it used to be before |
