Following FIFA’s decision to deduct three points and three goals from South Africa for fielding an ineligible player, the Group C standings of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers have shifted, News360 Nigeria reports.

With the sanction, Benin Republic now sits at the top of the table, while Nigeria’s chances of securing qualification have received a significant boost.

South Africa’s earlier 2-0 win over Lesotho was overturned to a 3-0 defeat, dropping them to second place on goal difference behind Benin. Lesotho, however, remains in fifth place.

The development leaves Nigeria with a clearer path in the group as the qualifiers continue, intensifying the race for a World Cup spot.

The truth is Nigeria will still not qualify for the world cup

If they were serious enough, they don't need to worry or happy about point deductions. I just hope they prove me wrong

We've played the same number of matches as they did and are 3 points each ahead of us and we think we will qualify? Joke but I really wish we qualify
Re: WCQ: Group C Standings After South Africa's Point, Goal Deductions by Emeskhalifa(m): 5:32pm On Sep 29, 2025
Such a shame that Nigeria always have to rely on calculator in order to qualify

Is the fault from players? , coach? or NFF?

Or the government is under funding NFF?

If after South Africa gets punished as we have all seen, and Nigeria does not still qualify for the WC, I will give up on our football, infinitely.

Nigeria should just forget about the WC distraction and concentrate on the AFCON on December... we lost qualification in the last games...no need fighting it ... the situation will even make the benin game harder for us cos tht will wanna maintain their top spot

Black man mentality...everything na divide for una...now. its West Africa against South Africa.... instead of u to hope that Africa sends their best nations to represent them like other continents do.. u are praying for Benin that will be disgraced at the WC

It's still not in our hands to qualify....

Even if we win our last two matches, South Africa can still win theirs and qualify.

Well, with God nothing shall be impossible 🙏
