₦2.5 Million For A 2-Bedroom Flat And Say You Don’t Want Yahoo Boys – Asaba Man by cityboylagos(op): 6:08am On Sep 30, 2025
“You Put 2-Bedroom Flat for ₦2.5M and Say You Don’t Want Yahoo Boys” – Man Blasts Asaba Landlords

A young Nigerian man has gone viral after publicly calling out landlords in Asaba, Delta State, over what he described as the outrageous cost of house rents.

In the trending video, the man expressed frustration that landlords are charging ₦2.5 million to ₦3 million for a two-bedroom flat, yet openly declare that they do not want internet fraudsters (yahoo boys) as tenants. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

“Which Normal Worker Fit Pay ₦3 Million Rent?”

Visibly upset, he posed a direct question to landlords:

“Asaba landlords, how you go put 2-bedroom flat for ₦2.5 million, ₦3 million and you go open mouth say you no want yahoo boy?”

He went further to ask if such landlords were “mentally alright,” arguing that no civil servant or regular worker could afford such rent based on Nigeria’s minimum wage and average salaries.
Only Yahoo Boys Can Afford It – Man Claims

According to him, landlords are indirectly targeting fraudsters and wealthy individuals, since ordinary Nigerians cannot pay such huge amounts for accommodation.

He stressed that with the current economic hardship, it was unrealistic for anyone with a legitimate income to comfortably spend millions on rent.
Nigerians React Online

The man’s outburst has triggered mixed reactions across social media:

Some users agreed that house rents in Asaba and other major Nigerian cities are now beyond reach for average citizens.

Others blamed landlords for contributing to rising urban inequality by setting prices only the rich or fraudsters can afford.

The debate has added to ongoing conversations about housing affordability and the widening gap between cost of living and income levels in Nigeria.

I agree with him 100%.

2-bedroom flat for 2.5 or 3m annual rentage, yet claims you don't want criminal tenants.

Just like saying you don’t want lies, yet you decorate your life with illusions.

Don't blame the landlords (house owners) in Nigeria, blame the tax master President that foisted himself on Nigerians because of Buhari's inefficiency angry

To build a single storey building in Nigeria today requires a minimum of 110million Naira, this does not include cost of buying land.

Now tell me how you want a house owner to recover his investment if after using such exorbitant amount to erect an upstairs and he collects say 800,000 naira per year as rent? It may take him 50 years or more to recover the money he used to build the house?

Nigerians should direct their anger towards the zero performing owomida government of Tinubu.

Landlord also have his own living cost to bear, and the only way he can recoup is through his house for rent angry

Wrong. Tinubu’s tax drive has its attendant harsh effect, and honestly every chance I get to criticize it I use same. Not because paying tax is wrong but because he is putting the cart before the horse. Make corruption punishable by death and see corruption grounded to 2%. That way Nigerians are happier paying tax.

That said, Nigerians are inherently selfish, forget tax matter. Farmers did same when borders were closed. We take undue advantage of opportunities and people where we can.

This is exactly a real problem in Nigeria lately. I was hunting for apartment earlier this year, I am a legit hustler and I can afford to pay for most of the buildings my agents showed me but I have one problem, most of the buildings are filled with Yahoo boys and I can't live with scammers.

Nigerians are extremely POOR people, they believe fraud is the only way they can afford good things just like the OP of this post.

2.5M apartment is not for fraudsters if you know what you are doing as a man

Balderdash angry

A house is an investment for the landlord. It is a tangible asset that always appreciates in value and he can always sell the house anytime at a profit in figures greater than what he built the house with.

Landlords are not expected to recoup the cost of building their houses in 10 years from tenant rents. The rent gotten is an additional income he can be using for his monthly expenses and the intent is never to recoup it from rents over a 10 or 12 year period.

We get things so wrong in Nigeria undecided

Look at Benin City, apart from hotels and bar, which company or big office dey for Benin City? How many people dey work for NPDC? What's even the minimum wage? 😔

those houses are obviously for the elites that can afford it, those that live and can maintain expensive lifestyle without involving in crime or fraud and not for the average Nigerians and civil servants. So it ain't a justification for going to into crime or doing yahoo. It's not meant for yahoo.

Many Nigerians don't earn 300k per annum. 95 percent don't have 500k on their account. Someone earning 400k a month is not a junior staff.
Someone earning 400k a month without illegal stuff can't rent a 2.5m apartment
So what remains for the target market for such rent?
You still pay profs 450k a month till date
