Is it only yahoo boys that can afford 2.5m house rent.

It's because we're way to poor in Africa.
That's why we used think that way
Pleas much is such in America and Europe?
$2.5m for 2-bed room? Or £3m?
You people will just open your mouth to talk rubbish

That wan better

In Lagos some Miniflats now go for 2.5M per annum, you'd begin to wonder

How much do we earn for such outrageous rental prices?

It's a terrible situation in Nigeria

With 70k min wage..how many people can afford that. Definitely not for civil servants
A minimum wage personnel no supposed dey reason such houses.
But lets talk about the civil servant on GL9, how much is their salary, can a civil servant of GL9 rent such apartments comfortably without breaking sweat?

What is this one even saying? The points are just flying over your head. In Nigeria today, how many people can afford to pay that 2.5 per annum from their legit business? Una go come online dey yarn dust. That amount is outrageous and must be discouraged as these are things that lead to hyperinflation and crimes. This is the area where I blame all these yahoo boys because even if a 20 million/annum pricetag is placed on an apartment, one werey with fraud money will surely pay for it and this is exactly what these evil and greedy landlords and agents are leveraging on; if you can’t pay another person will.

A house is an investment for the landlord. It is a tangible asset that always appreciates in value and he can always sell the house anytime at a profit in figures greater than what he built the house with.

Landlords are not expected to recoup the cost of building their houses in 10 years from tenant rents. The rent gotten is an additional income he can be using for his monthly expenses and the intent is never to recoup it from rents over a 10 or 12 year period.

We get things so wrong in Nigeria undecided
You helped me to type what I was going to say. Rent is not supposed to help landlords recoup their investments. Some people and their sense of reasoning though.

So where do they get it right elseware cos the last I checked it might even be worse in places like UK where you have buy- to- let properties where landlords buy and use rent to make mortgage payments, where venture capitalist such as blackrock is buying up all available properties ans driving rent to the high heavens.
Oga our landlords are even good compared to those abroad.

Don't blame the landlords (house owners) in Nigeria, blame the tax master President that foisted himself on Nigerians because of Buhari's inefficiency angry

To build a single storey building in Nigeria today requires a minimum of 110million Naira, this does not include cost of buying land.

Now tell me how you want a house owner to recover his investment if after using such exorbitant amount to erect an upstairs and he collects say 800,000 naira per year as rent? It may take him 50 years or more to recover the money he used to build the house?

Nigerians should direct their anger towards the zero performing owomida government of Tinubu.

Landlord also have his own living cost to bear, and the only way he can recoup is through his house for rent angry
Normally shouldn’t house investment be recovered in 30-50 years.

My apartment building the way the rent is calculated, it less that 5 years the landlord would recover his cost of building the house. Why?! Isn’t that greed?

At point I asked the also greedy caretaker why there are a hand full of Yahoo boys taking up flats: the foolish old man told me that they are one that can afford to pay undecided. Like seriously why won’t Yahoo boys be the only ones to afford it when rent is outrageous

Due to insecurity in South East, many of them are migration en masse to Asaba and it's environs.

House rent in Asaba is now thesame with Abuja that has better infrastructure.

House rent will continue to skyrocket except the Governor stop the mass migration.

You dey mind them? The same extreme greed was part of what made those oil companies to flee Delta State. Charging "arm robber" rent as if it's every year that the landlord builds or renovates the house. Too outrageous!

2.5M rent in a country where 77k minimum wage has not been implemented. Anyways like the poster rightly said, Yahoo boys are the target, and the consequences for encouraging them will dawn on the society.

Nigerians are extremely POOR people, they believe fraud is the only way they can afford good things just like the OP of this post.

The government should better start regulating the prices rental prices. Even Agbor that's a village (if not for okowa), is also calling huge sum for rental. Tell me which company/work dey for Agbor?

Look at Benin City, apart from hotels and bar, which company or big office dey for Benin City? How many people dey work for NPDC? What's even the minimum wage? 😔
Government don't need to regulate anything, all they need to do is to build low cost pent houses for people. If not that those we called governors are stupid, 30 billion naira per annum invested in low cost mini flats would've totally solved housing problems in our urban areas within 20 years.

A 30 billion naira will build portable 6000 pieces of 1 bedroom apartment, Imaging adding 6000 houses together for 20 years, that gives us 120,000 houses. A 120k low cost houses within a state will significantly influence the cost of rent in that state.

The reality is that, Nigeria government at all level has absolutely no regard for the people they are rulling.
