Nigeria’s prominent leaders, Labour activists, and civil society members are set to gather for a National Electoral Reforms Dialogue.

Persons expected to attend the event include: Ex-President Goodluck, Ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and former National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega.

They are scheduled to be among the discussants at the national webinar organized as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Mallam Hamisu San Turaki, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The event, which is being organised by the National Consultative Front (NCFront), Labour and Civil Society Front (LCSF), in partnership with Nigeria Electoral Reforms Coalition NERCO and Partners for Electoral Reforms, is scheduled to hold on October 1st.

Others invited to the event include the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, his counterpart in the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osofo, and a former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili.

Also expected to join the debate are: Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, his Rivers State counterpart Rotimi Amaechi, foremost Nigerian political economist Prof. Pat Utomi, and former Kaduna State Senator Shehu Sani.

According to the event organizers, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, as well as the chairmen of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Electoral Reforms and the INEC Commissioner in charge of Information, are also expected to attend the occasion.

The event aims to drive credible elections in 2027 and will be held to commemorate Nigeria’s 75th Independence Anniversary.

The dialogue will focus on critical and mandatory constitutional amendments for credible elections in 2027. The event seeks to promote electoral reforms, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s electoral process.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, stakeholders are urging for reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

Good!
This National Electoral Reforms Dialog is a right step in the right direction.
Our Electoral umpire is no longer independenthuh It is now an arm of the current FG.
INEC needs total overhauling for it to meet up it's responsibility of conducting Free, Fair and credible elections in this country. The winner buyer of 2023 presidential election was announced at mid-night when 90% of Nigerians were asleep.huh

Credible election is what we are after. Let the masses chose their leaders.

Good. Happy to see Osinbajo coming back into the political space. The Yorubas will need cerebral Omoluabis to chart their future when Tinubu is voted out in 2027.

In hindsight, his short but famous campaign speech at the APC primaries now makes a lot of sense, "Vote for who you know, don't vote for who you don't know". He was trying to warn Nigerians.

You are right but Tinubu media platforms have portrayed bright minds like Osinbajo to seem like a betrayer and a lesser Omoluabi for daring to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Osinbajo no doubt would have done a better job as a president than this unknown and mysterious kleptoman!ac without an identity in power.

Jonathan and Obi are more of comedians than politicians…

I feel bad for anyone that takes them seriously

It’s hilarious that Osibanjo the betrayer has finally found his voice

Not only Osinbajo, bright leaders like Fashola, Fayemi, Ambode, very nearly Sanwo-olu are all portrayed as betrayers as soon as they dared to dream or become independent. Tinubu is in his eighties. Which contemporary politician will the Southwest look up towards afyer his reign. Kwankwaso and other Northern leaders left Buhari and even contested against him but they remain relevant and no Norrherner calls them betrayers merely for doing so.

The electoral system will not be reformed. The incumbent will keep it as it is so they should waste their time because tinubu will still lose

The only thing the APC fears is electoral reforms that will mandate electronic voting uploading and coliation of results.

The old chap emilokan should also try to see things beyond his nose. There’s no point trying to chain the country when he knows that he will not be permanently around to enjoy the suffering of Nigerians as he’s enjoying now.

We need an effort by all parties and groups to establish free and fair elections in Nigeria.

I thought Jonathan already did it when he was President for 6 wasted years. When he was scared of Tinubu’s humiliation, he moved the Presidential election from the last which it has been for decades, he moved it to the first, isn’t that the reform he wanted?

What about Judas Osinbajo? I thought he has made Nigeria’s Constitution and electoral laws the best in government when he was VP for 8 years or was it only TraderMonie he concentrated on looting? Kwankwaso can be excused because he has not been in a position to make such reforms

Tinubu will never agree.

There are not up to 1 million people in Nigeria today who will vote for him. He knows this.

He has put his hope on the lax electoral reforms to grab it and run away with it

COMRADES, I've been saying this, that unless we have our electoral process right, otherwise Nigeria will remain what it is
Re: 2027: Jonathan, Osinbajo, Kwankwaso To Join CSO In Demand For Electoral Reforms by Kelklein(m):
The current government's body language does not indicate that they want any reform in the electoral process..

If at all, they made nonsense of the little progress late President Buhari made to put some sanity in the electoral process in Nigeria. There is still alot more to be done.

Former President Buhari to some extent tried not to use the enormous powers a Nigerian President wield, to interfere in the off-cycle elections which was why you saw some opposition parties won elections in Edo, Anambra and Osun during his tenure.. he had the powers to turn the Institutions upside down and inside out to upturn the results like they are doing now, he did not. He had the powers to railroad the Judiciary, he did not.

People in power need to understand that you will be out of there someday soon and the story of how you led will be told.. everyone sees everything you do or don't do.. posterity will read about you and judge you accordingly.

Those at the forefront now of these reforms according to this report and the CSOs need to ensure that the electoral laws are further strengthened to make it difficult or impossible for the electoral body who is supposed to be an unbiased umpire, to be used to do all these dirty dealings they currently use them for.

As for the Judiciary, we would just leave their own to their conscience.

You guys should Keep deceiving yourselves

Is it not the same Osinbajo that you guys called all sorts of names when he was VP to Buhari, you called him a Fulani slaves, condolence minister etc but when he falled out with Tinubu he is suddenly the best thing after slice bread to you guys.
Re: 2027: Jonathan, Osinbajo, Kwankwaso To Join CSO In Demand For Electoral Reforms by hotseat: 10:37pm On Sep 30, 2025
All these just because of one man for daring to defeat them in 2023?

Even though electoral reforms are desirable, the organizers are mostly those who are disgruntled.

Even Osunbande, the Judas of Nigeria, is in the motley crowd of these disgruntled elements.

The harder they come, the harder they fall!

Tinubu till May 28th, 2031!

No "shakement"!

remove fayemi from that list. Ekiti people know him better. The high performing noiseless politician of ekiti origin is senator bamidele and the current governor. Tinubu wasted opportunity that should have gone to much better Yoruba politicians. But I don't blame him. I blame the constitution and the political parties for always presenting only their worst options to the electorates through the rigged party primary process. Party primaries is what needs the most rejigging

How will this stop Tinubu (APC) or Atiku (ADC) from winning elections in 2027 undecided

Whatever reform will pass through the HOR amd Senate which is filled with APC and PDP.

This is the first sign of articulate opposition since 2015.
Peaceful processions should also be organized to insist on the demands.
