Nigeria @ 65 Years Of Nationhood; Hope Or Despair? by Racoon(op): 4:35am On Oct 01, 2025
The advent of the independence of Nigeria from Britain on the 1st of October, 1960 came with much enthusiasm and there is a high anticipation of a budding nation with great potentials to became a great nation. Now, sixty five years down the road, where does Nigeria stand?

What do we have today? A nation with disillusioned citizens. Dashed hopes of an uncertain future being plagued by bad leadership, worsening institutional corruption, economic stagnation, deteriorating insecurity and healthcare facilities, gross unemployment and poor educational system among many ills. So, the question is whither Nigeria?

This was vividly captured in a song by the legendary pan-Nigerian musical icon – Sunny Okosun in his “WHICH WAY NIGERIA?” BY LATE SONNY OKOSUN( 1 JANUARY 1947 – 24 MAY 2008 )

When we were young in the 1980-90s we are always enthusiastic in going for October 1st independence day parade @TBS and Liberty/Adamasingba Stadiums back then. However, fast forwarded today, one is increasingly finding it difficult to believe in the pan-nationalism that once filled our hearts because of the worsening abysmal state of this nation.

JAPA or not, Nigeria has to work for the benefits of it collective citizens or an outright dissolution is advised. Imagine the scary insecurity plaguing a sovereign nation with terrorists opening holding meeting with full cache of arms and ammunition in tow.

Nigeria is without doubt a failed state. Children of nowadays don't even recognize or understand what today means. It is every man on his own.

Why not start a Political Party on the platform of that same peaceful integration and see how many people will join you and if you will be able to have elected members in state and national parliaments?

Would be interesting to see if Obidients would have still wanted Nigeria dissolved if Peter Obí had won?

Maybe your own might be different sha, who knows. Maybe when you too see money swirling around, you will hold onto your principles instead of cashing out or fighting over money.

Nigeria survived a tortuous Civil War which could have balkanized other countries.

Nigeria survived years of military rule.

Nigeria survived years of democratic mishap.

Nigeria survived years of misrule and mismanagement.

Nigeria has never collapsed economically.

Despite the evil subsidy regime and privatization calamity, Nigeria survived gidigba.

Despite our challenges, Nigeria thrives.

Nigeria gave Nigerians heavily subsidized education. Nigeria gave Nigerians heavily subsidized healthcare. Nigeria took care of every graduate for one year after graduation to equip them with skills and funds; something that doesn't happen elsewhere.

Nigeria endows and continue to endows.

Many say "May Nigeria not happen to me", but Nigeria already happened to them because they are in the system. Instead of wishing Nigeria not to happen to one, how about saying: "May evil not befall me".

Nigeria is on the right trajectory to sustainable growth. We all shall do our part in this.

May God bless Nigeria. May God heal the land of the calamity of those who do not wish fellow citizens well. May God bless the work of those who invested their faith in the land.

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

Buhari’ll reduce petrol to N40/L —David-West

FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tamunoemi David-West, said that Nigerians should expect sharp drop in petrol price from the current N87 to about N40 per litre, saying, “the president-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, will reduce the fuel pump price to N40 per litre.”

"Nigeria and Nigerians will be known globally for corruption, to the point where the country's name will be synonymous with corruption"

However, he also foresees a future phase where Nigeria will rise above its challenges and become a beacon of righteousness, with people from around the world seeking out Nigerians to learn from their example.

It's much more than despair because apc and tinubu have taken Nigeria 200 thousand years backwards because of their selfish interest.

Azrael's presence continues to grow all over the land, the numbers of those who have been unfortunate to have suffered its visit across all the regions of the country definitely is proof that no one is safe! State celebrated terrorists operate unabated, the military awaits orders before protecting civilians 😂, a large population of the people who'll also be visited in no time still sing praises of their tribesman in power, and those of religious leaders, its wings are large, and just a flap of them erases hundreds of souls.
