FG brokers peace as Dangote, PENGASSAN end refinery dispute; disengaged workers reabsorbed, strike suspended, no pay loss guaranteed.

[b]The Federal Government has brokered peace between Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), ending a labour dispute that had threatened fuel supply stability
.

After two days of talks on Monday and Tuesday, the parties reached an agreement that disengaged workers will be reabsorbed into other Dangote Group companies, with no loss of pay.

The conciliation meeting was convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, following a directive by PENGASSAN to cut off gas supply and withdraw services from the refinery after more than 800 staff were terminated.

The high-level session was attended by the National Security Adviser, the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Labour and Employment, and State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), as well as the Directors-General of the DSS and the NIA.

In his remarks, Dr. Dingyadi reminded both parties that “the right of workers to unionise in accordance with Nigerian law must be respected.”

The signed communique outlined three key decisions:

Reabsorption of Workers: “The Dangote Group management will immediately start the process of taking the disengaged staff to other companies within the Dangote Group, with no loss of pay,” the statement read.

No Victimisation: Both sides agreed that “no worker will be victimised arising from their role in the impasse.”

Strike Suspension: PENGASSAN also confirmed that it would “start the process of calling off the strike.”

The communique concluded that all parties entered the agreement “in good faith.”

The dispute had raised concerns about potential disruptions in fuel supply and power generation. Earlier, ARISE News reported that the Federal Government reassured Nigerians of “stable and uninterrupted fuel supply” despite the standoff, underscoring the national stakes in the conflict.

With this resolution, industrial peace has been temporarily restored, although analysts note that structural issues in the oil and gas sector’s labour relations remain unresolved.

How can you have the guts to disrupt the operations of a company that nobody in your entire generation can establish?

Pengassan members never reach to build their own Dangote refinery abi Dangote get two heads? Nigeria needs to review all labour laws. These guys are beginning to act like insane people.

Battle of titans. Nigeria has laws. Until the Labour laws are set aside, Dangote has no choice but to obey the law.

Have you ever worked in a multinational owned by Indians, Chinese and South Africa? If you have, the only saviour to your slavery is Labour Union. Working with Western countries without unionization is subject to lost of individual liberties let alone those unethical companies like Dangote.

I didn't state they should be scrapped - I am calling for a review of their modus operandi.

Those workers will see shege banza till they voluntarily resign and the rest workers will learn from their experience. Dangote is not a small name to mess with, he has achieved his aim and set an example for all other private players that will be running refineries in future. It's a matter of time these unions will lose their relevance.

You don't understand. Those laws were hard fought to come by and they all compiled with ILO statutes. Do you know that working with some of these companies require you lose your individual liberties. Some even have laws against second hustle at your private time.

Shell is bigger than Dangote
Mobil is bigger than Dangote they have worked with PENGASSAN FOR DECADES

who even knows the names of their CEO

They never one day banned PENGASSAN

When you hear people talking of another person's generation you recognise a jangolova saying kerosene cooked food eating Okrika wearing nonentity

Under Nigerian law can an employer say to his employees

You cannot join a union and if you do I will sack you yes or no?

You shamelessly type this?
When will shell build refinery for you despite being here before you were born? Here you are thinking this is about who joins union or not. Have you asked yourself who gains if dangote refinery dies? Are the 800 staffs the only Nigerian there? What has this union done to force fg make the other refineries work, it is in a private business you want to flex muscle. When is the union going to fight for Nigerians in Indian and Chinese company? Are you not ashamed?

They should also give Dangote conditions; welfare of those staffs must not be neglected or tampered with on the long run because I am sure they must be marked for office discrimination and coded maltreatments cry

Oil and Gas sector is so huge, nothing mandates shell, Chevron, Total, Eni, etc to build refinery for Nigeria, they are private business owners run for profit and they venture into areas they have expertise and can make maximum profit from.

Dangote knows he cannot compete in exploration so he dived into refining where he saw lapses and believed he would make more profit from.

So Dangote building a refinery is not for anybody's good but for his own good and business expansion, or you think Dangote built the refinery because he loves Nigerians so much? If that is so, let him hand over the finished refinery to us or run it as a none profit organization.

Dangote is virtually into every business sector because he has the federal government backing and he see opportunities to rip off.

He produces cement, flour, pasta, tomatoes, rice, sugar, transportation, assembles trucks, assembles cars now, he is into construction, he is into fertilizer, petrol refining, and real estate.

He didn't ventured into all these businesses because he loves Nigerians so much, he did so because he wants to take advantage of the situation in Nigeria to enrich himself and generation

Too much chochocho too much in Nigeria and I see this as the only reason why the nation is not progressing for the lazy youth like you. Is Dangote bigger than Nigeria constitution that gives rights to workers to join union? Basically because you are not affected doesn't make u talk anyhow.

Pengassan will avoid anything that has to do with dangote.
Company will now give them another form not to be unionize or take them back under a contractor. They will still be fired, Dangote is the winner here📌💯

This is not a dictatorship. Thus is a democracy.
Dangote can hire and fire, but that is in his bedroom. He is into a very economically sensitive business and he must obey labour laws. The energy sector is not necessarily built for profits but for basic services. Profits should be made but the national ninterest shouldn't be sacrificed. It is that simple. If he doesn't want to obey those laws, he should stay away from such businesses. Those laws were there before he decided to venture into the refining business

You should know this issue started from NUPENG because of the 4000 petrol tankers. NUPENG collect dues of 120k per loading. Multiply that by 4000 , then how many trips in a month, thats 480M

They will learn to dance to the tune of the piper when Dangote transfers them to positions in Dangote Cement that pays half what the refinery pays.

Ọmọ! You go fear crème de la crème of conflict resolution. Tinubu has no rival in this aspect.

Absolute respect.

Top respect to Dangote for standing his ground. He won! Those workers that want to unionize are out of his refinery, plugged into other companies within the Dangote group - out of the oil and gas industry entirely. There will be no PENGASSAN BS to join. If they are unlucky, they will be deployed to unfavorable locations.

On the other hand, Dangote gets to employ new workers for his refinery. I'm sure the new workers will sign an undertaking.

PENGASSAN calls off the strike. They protected workers' job - a small win. They failed to establish control in Dangote Refinery - a big loss - na the main thing wey dey want be that. They will try again though. Make dem go build their own refinery na if body dey scratch them. Selfish folks. Food don done, you bring spoon to come chop; shey na your ancestors build the refinery?

This is a big win for Nigeria. Business continue as usual.

God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
God bless Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi
God bless Dangote Refinery
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Emergency lovers of Nigeria can choke on their tears 😭😭😭

Coming to the emboldened part, the first thing you will probably learn in an MBA class or business school is that organisations are established to impact the people it serves because they don't operate in isolation.

Dangote refinery is a win-win company for him and Nigerians because it is not your regular company that every Tom, Dick and Harry can set up. Investing over $20 billion in one business is no child's play.

As regards its impact, you need to know that how other countries treat you depends on how they see the behaviour of your elites. Nigerians aren't respected around the world because our elites (business, religious and political class) have demonstrated that we don't deserve it because of the way they run out country.

Apart from the enormous economic benefits of that refinery, Dangote wiped away shame from everyone who identifies as a Nigerian by proving that a black can actually build and run one of the biggest refineries in the world.

Everything no suppose be gbas gbos. Sometimes, we need to have serious conversations because at the end of the day, we may think that a win for one person is a personal victory not knowing that it earns every black some respect in the scheme of things.

That's why this moniker has repeatedly maintained that people need to be mindful of the way they criticise Dangote because he's a stronger believer that the black can conquer the world - something that generations that came before him couldn't achieve.

You have been repeating this line, all the company you listed are not as big as Dangote as far as Nigeria is concerned, you don't use their global strength to determine their strength in Nigeria
Dangote is the biggest employer of labour in Nigeria aside FG, and maybe the LASG

So your point is

Dangote is bigger and therefore the law does not apply to Dangote?

Let me make it simple

In 2024 How much tax did SHELL pay to Nigeria compare to Dangote who paid more

Copy and paste the emboldened text and then put it in CHATGPT OR COPILOT

SO that is a claim that is easy to check

Shell pays significantly more taxes than Dangote

Your claim about biggest employer is not verified

Shell has dozens of contractors and creates jobs indirectly
Shell does not own vehicles unlike Dangote and they do not kill Nigerians on the roads through recklessness

All the vehicles they use are leased from businesses like SCOA,or MANDILAS, Even the rigs they use they lease from the likes of Schlumberger.
There are so many companies that have Shell as their only client
Dangote wants to do everything even though he has a very poor track record on road safety

The issue here is not to drag who is bigger
Shell is bigger than Dangote
They are a private business
They have good relationships with workers and don't ban unionisation

According to publish records for the year 2024, Dangote cement is the highest tax payer in Nigeria, the only oil company in top 10 is seplat at 4th, Dangote sugar still find its way to 8th.
Just the way other companies have vendors and contractors that also employs their own staff, so does Dangote company
