Nigeria @65: Atiku Hails Nigerians’ Resilience Amid Hardship by iwaeda(op): 8:37am On Oct 01, 2025
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lauded the resilience and endurance of Nigerians despite alleged biting economic hardship and insecurity, while faulting the All Progressives Congress-led government for failing to safeguard citizens’ welfare as the nation marks its 65th Independence anniversary.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku lamented that Nigerians continue to face harsh economic conditions and rising insecurity.

As Nigeria, which gained independence on October 1, 1960, turns 65 tomorrow, citizens have been sharing their reflections on the nation’s progress, challenges, and future prospects.

In his message, Atiku lamented that “Nigerians are enduring excruciating pains from raging insecurity, rising food scarcity, mass unemployment, and a dangerous climate of hopelessness, all compounded by the insensitivity of the APC-led administration.

“It is tragic that in a country blessed with immense human and material resources, millions of our people have been reduced to refugees and beggars in their fatherland. Every responsible government holds the welfare and security of its citizens as supreme. But what we have today is an administration that has abandoned its people. Hunger is killing Nigerians, bandits are massacring communities, yet President Tinubu and his cabinet stand by, unmoved and uncaring.

“Calling on citizens not to lose faith, Atiku reminded Nigerians that 2027 provides a clear opportunity to reject bad leadership and reclaim the promise of a better tomorrow.

“The beauty of democracy lies in the power of the ballot. Oppressed and battered as our people may feel today, they will have the chance to sweep away this inept government at the next polls. That is the power no cabal can take away from the people.”

Atiku encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that with the right leadership, the nation can overcome years of failed governance and reclaim its rightful position among the community of nations.

The statement continued, “At 65, Atiku noted, Nigeria remains a giant moving painfully slow on the feet of clay, a direct result of decades of poor leadership and wasteful governance.”

Yet, he urged Nigerians to keep hope alive, insisting that with the right leadership, the country can still rise from the ashes of failed governance to reclaim its rightful place among the comity of nations.

“He wishes Nigerians a happy 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration.”

This resilience is cowardice dressed up as patience. Like a patient dog starving to death, waiting won’t save Nigerians. Waiting is dying. Stand up or starve.

It's not easy. Even Tinubu himself and the APC know very well that they have inflicted untold hardship and strife on Nigerians, which is why they keep telling Nigerians to continue to endure, admitting they have no solution.

It’s about time that we all work together to return the country to PDP’s deregulation and privatisation prosperity of high employment productivity.

It’s about time to get rid of Oshiomhole’s Assembly of Past Criminals, APC and their corrupt, incompetent and clueless leadership lootership.

Can we have enough solidarity to make it happen huh

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

Lagos Resident Laments Economic Hardship, Hunger Under Tinubu, Confesses To Beating Elderly People, Others To Make Tinubu President

A Lagos state resident has lamented his inability to get petroleum despite beating people including the elderly to vote for President Bola Tinubu in 2023.

In a video posted on social media, he narrated how life had been hard for him despite all he did to ensure Tinubu became Nigeria’s President.

He said, “We wanted to buy fuel but we have been unable to get. They even beat us at the petroleum station. I was among those that beat people at Idi-Oro.

“We went from house to house, asking people to vote for you (referring to Tinubu). You emerged as the President and now you are destroying our lives. Getting food to eat is difficult for us.”

He noted that despite the hardship, different agencies in the state have kept milking them through taxation.

"I voted for Jagaban, I was among those that flogged people we refused to vote Tinubu at Idi-oro. We went from House to House attacking people who didn't vote for Jagaban, Today I am regretting”.

He said, “We are suffering in Nigeria, we have become lazy even in our own father’s land. We are drivers and that’s how we survive. LASTMA (Lagos State Traffic Management Agency), VIO (Vehicle Inspection Office) all collect money from us. Please Tinubu, do something about this hardship.

“We are the same people that beat up others so you could become the President. Some of them people we beat were our father’s mates, but we beat them up. We did that just because of you so you could become the President, and we kept saying it was our turn.

“Look at it now, the outcome is suffering, we cannot even buy rice again. You cannot buy N1000 food and be okay. I bought food of N1200 today and my kids have not eaten at home.”

He also expressed worry that he would be beaten for the comments he was making about Tinubu.

“I know that what I have said now, they will still come to beat me at home. I know that for sure,” he said.

To the good people of Nigeria I will advise you that rather than wail on the current quanodrum that PBAT and his economic team has put the country, try secure your families future by looking for a prosperous mid-advanced country either in europe or the Americans to relocate.

Save enough money and then relocate.

This country wouldn't get better with this crop of politicians especially the ones in the PBAT Govt who are good in manipulating figures and quickly rebasing numbers to have the "feel good" syndrome.

Nobody is celebrating independence in our streets because of hardship...on my way to my office this morning I didn't see a single person wearing green and white ...is like people refused to wear any clothes that looked like green....unlike early 2000s when things were not this hard...
