Two brothers 10 and 17yrs old used an “Ashawo” key to break into their downstairs neighbor’s palor through the balcony, thinking she was asleep.

As they attempted to move the baby, the mother, Mrs. Jennifer, came out of the bathroom, saw them and screamed. Wondering how they got in, because the front door was still locked.

As neighbors gathered, the boys lied that they just wanted to play with the baby and see what Mrs. Jennifer’s house looked like.

When her husband got home, they involved soldiers and after a little retouching of the boys, they apologized and confessed that one “Brother” promised them ₦50k if they could bring him a live baby.

And it was the brother that gave them the “Ashawo” key. (Master key) they used to open the balcony doors.

That day the soldiers couldn’t capture the “brother”. But they detained the two boys, and their mother at the barracks. The next day, they caught the brother who sent them.

After hours of community begging. Jennifer’s husband released the 10yr old boy and their mom. But kept the 17yr old and the “Brother” in detention.

Now all tenants have changed their locks. The caretaker has given the boys 1week quit notice, because other tenants are afraid for their safety.

As for Mrs. Jennifer Munachi Micheal and her family, they’d be packing out, latest by January. On her dedication, she would say the whole story in church.

Jennifer’s own mom and the boys father have been begging. Her husband insists, he’s not done with the case. As he involved lawyers, the begging increased.

As for Jennifer and her husband, the case is just getting started.

Apparently, because Jennifer is a PCOS mom who’s been trying to conceive for a bit. Although she now has two kids.

So, left to her, she feels no remorse. That, they must face the consequences of their actions. And she’s just getting started, afterall it’s just day 3.

I'm not surprised one bit. And a lot more of similar incidents should be expected over time.

I've always respected Igbos for their resilience, creativity, and business acumen. That traditional business mentorship strategy that involves sending an Igbo boy to Lagos to work with an established boss who in turn establishes him after some years is one of the most effective business schooling systems I've ever known of.

But the problem now is, most Igbo youths of today want to be like the Igbo big men who went through that system BUT are not ready to go through the system themselves. Many of them now prefer to waste their time on social media and argue over frivolous topics. And when the issue of making money comes up, they start chasing shadows and want the easier way out -- not the system that has worked for successful Igbos for years.
