Shey you have seen what I talked about? Na you dey answer these people. The one I responded to, if not for the spam bot, he would have blocked me because I don't understand why someone will come to a 50+ thread without reading from the beginning to know how far.

Anyone who had read the last ten pages would not ask about the bold, but innately indolent people do so, and unfortunately, do so for a living!

I have gone through the pages here, but it seems confusing. It's not straightforward like UK, Canada applications. I also have not seen undergraduate applications too....na masters and PhD I saw.
Don't be mean please...the Canada application I did, I got the information here and applied myself, no one did it for me...I couldn't continue because of the funds.

Most of these non English speaking countries do not have an easy and straightforward application process. I literally slept here last night trying to understand the country (Japan) but it seems like it's not sinking.

Okay, I am sorry for my harsh words.

Regarding undergraduate, the information is scarce because most courses, and I am not sure your programme is excluded, are offered in Japanese. Also, there is the EJU, which is an entrance examination for foreigners into Japanese universities at the undergraduate level. My concern is your age, as language schools might be hesitant in admitting you. An overlooked aspect in undergraduate education outside Nigeria (even if na Ghana) is funding. How do you intend to fund this education for the next 3-4 years?

The other option is to use your HND to apply to national universities as a research student (minimum of six months and max of 12 months). If asked about your degree status, do well to explain the differences and put forward your distinction result to show how brilliant and disciplined you are. The other option is to apply to English teaching jobs, which will offer you an entry into the country, then you can pivot to a degree-based education as you save up some funds.

For Japan, the bottleneck isn't the visa but the admission and funding. Once the admission is secured and the school is satisfied with your funding arrangements, the COE is mailed, and with the COE, visa issuance is almost certain.

Thank you. I forgot to add, check Reddit/movingtojapan. Add "reddit" to your search keywords. For instance, "undergraduate applications as a foreigner to Japanese universities reddit".

But those options are what I think you should explore.

Best wishes!

Modified: How do you intend to fund your undergraduate education in a foreign university? Undergraduate education is way more expensive than graduate studies as they take longer and it is full-time, thus, limited time for part-time jobs, which are unrealistic to fund one's studies, postgraduate or undergraduate. If the option of a research student/English teacher works, you could save up funds and get into a language school. There are many scholarships as an under(graduate) student here, but at the UG level, Japanese proficiency is crucial. So, if you really want to obtain an UG degree while being sponsored, knowing Japanese is important.

Ok, I had a serious issue in Nigeria. I had booked my flight to leave via Qatar Airways, but on getting to the Qatar desk in Nigeria the agent profiling me started asking for all sorts of things, my degree certificate, my nysc certificate, my admission letter, and all sort of nonsense. After I presented everything he then went and asked if I had paid my school fees. I told him I had paid and showed him the receipt. The man said he needed to see money leaving my Nigerian account to the Japanese account.
Meanwhile I had paid the money to a family friend who used his own money in Japan to pay so he didn't necessarily need to move money from Nigeria to Japan. This Qatar agent just went loco on me, he insisted I bought a return ticket again.
I was like how do you buy a return ticket on a two year travel visa? What date would I put on it?
To cut the long story short the man wickedly made me miss my flight. I was devastated,I then met one of his colleagues who said I should come the next day.
I got to the airport the next day and the there was a little back and forth with some of them at the desk and a more reasonable person asked me some questions and said he would allow me fly that I was good to go. But then I had to rebook another flight since I add missed my first flight but then no extra seat so I had go back home again. Anyways the all scenario set me back another 900k to rebook another flight for Wednesday. Got to the airport met with the people who profiled me on Saturday and finally left the country on the 1st of October.

Do airline staff really have the right to profile prospective travellers like this? What if you were going for a business conference?

I had similar experience, my own scenario set me back another 600k. According to a staff, Qatar Airways received email from Japan that they should scrutinize all Nigerians flying to Japan using their service, that lots of Nigerians are being sent back or in detention camp. But surprisingly, when I got to Kansai International Airport, Osaka, apart from the long queue, every other thing was seamless. I am now in my room resting after spending over 17hrs(delayed flight) in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia

I talk am....

Dem think say because EXPO is held, Japan would have open borders to Black Africans.

If I talk now, dem go say I get low self esteem.

P.S. The worst experience a Black African person (mostly men) can get in this region is being in detention. It is better one goes back quietly. Japan is even better. Outside the big East Asian countries and maybe Singapore (provided no drugs), it is better for the person to relocate to Kwara or Borno than be inside detention in Asia.

Good day house. I intend to guide my friend on DIY Japan tourist visa. Can you well informed people on Japan visa here help with right steps and the documents required. Although I have seen on their website but it's cool to have first hand inform from experienced people. I tried creating a profile with VfS on order to book appointment but no appointments slots is displayed . Also, is it possible to make the trip by December all things being equal cos I'm not privy of timelines for appointments and the application processing time at the embassy.

Can also 2 month statement of account be used?
Kindly help please

Konnichiwa,

I was told I need a personal seal (inkan/hanko) to open a bank account or sign a mobile contract here in Japan. A kind Japanese neighbor I just met this evening even drove me to a Daiso store, but unfortunately, I couldn’t buy a seal — they only sell ones with Japanese kanji names.

My family name (I’m Igbo) is written in katakana, so it wasn’t available.

To those of you who’ve already been through this — @Gerrard59, @blackbriar, @judecares1 — how did you get your inkan made, especially if your name isn’t in kanji?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Also, I’m currently relying on my dormitory’s free Wi-Fi. Once I step outside, I can’t access the internet because I don’t have a Japanese SIM card yet. Without it, it’s been really hard to move around or use essential apps like Google Maps — it’s affecting my ability to settle in.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You don't need an inkan/hanko to open an account. Your school needs to assist you with opening a bank account wirh JP Bank. The account will be linked to your mobile contract with a telecom provider. Normal signature can suffice. Getting a hanko is one thing as you will need to register it with the city office you reside to legitimise it to use for signature. A hanko without registration at the city hall is just an ink (I am open to be corrected here).

So JP Bank account > phone contract with a provider > My Number Card. In fact, if possible, get the My Number Card before the bank account. Your residence card will be mandatory for all stages.

To those of you who’ve already been through this — @Gerra.rd59, @blac.kbriar, @judecar.es1 — how did you get your inkan made, especially if your name isn’t in kanji?
I have a hanko, but first bank account and mobile contract. Those two are more important than a hanko for a foreign resident.

I once was like that until I opened a JP Bank, then got my mobile contract linked to the bank.

In most cases, your school ought to have assisted you with writing your name in katakana 🈂️. You can't get it at daiso cos it's just an 100yen shop,I opened my bank account with the post office by just writing my name as my signature while regarding the hanko it can be done within a day, you decide on what name you want but you need to guide 🙏. I can't really advise you on that since i don't know the city which you are currently in, kindly ask your school they will be of great help

Taxis are so expensive here. The service is impeccable; thus, the price is very high. Many roads have tolls so the price is included. Moreover, as there are abundant public buses and there is a functioning train system (cheaper than taxis), it makes sense that taxi prices are high.

Together with the healthy food (but very little quantity to my preference), get ready to shed weight or not add weight at all.
