Nigeria’s First Crude Facility In 50 Years Ready For Commissioning by NaijaphiliaBlog(op): 7:39am On Oct 03, 2025
On Wednesday 8 October 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to commission the $400m Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal in Rivers State.

This is the first new crude export facility to be built in Nigeria in more than 5 decades.

The facility was developed by Green Energy International Limited who are the operators of the Otakikpo field in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 11 at Ikuru town of Rivers State.

It is also the first wholly indigenous onshore terminal ever built in Nigeria. The last such facility, the Forcados Terminal, was commissioned by Shell in September 1971.

Industry operators have frequently emphasized that evacuation bottlenecks are a major hurdle in achieving the Federal Government’s crude oil production target of 3 million barrels per day (bpd).

With initial storage capacity of 750,000 barrels expandable to 3 million barrels, and a loading capacity of 360,000 bpd, the terminal is forecast to vastly reduce production costs for indigenous producers.

The Otakikpo terminal will serve as a succour to more than 40 stranded oil fields by providing a reliable evacuation outlet and conceivably unlocking millions of barrels of crude previously trapped underground.

Chairman and Chief Executive of GEIL, Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe, described the terminal as a “game-changing national infrastructure.”

This is a welcome development for the country. The Nation should try and develop other non oil sector because in the coming years, the world is developing into non oil development.

Nice development
Very happy to hear this as I am part of its success stories

I remember the days of well 2 and well 3 as soon as Late PMB took over, then CACASA was doing the structural work, WellSmart former NRG was the drilling contractor, Lekoil the technical partner with I think Brown being the technical team lead from Lekoil and Prince Africanus from the green energy side.
Emeka was the HSE officer with one other delta guy, who i think is still there.

Ikuru people persevered, they did not use cultism to chase investors away, despite there being home to Greenlanders, ofcourse there was a time the whole technical team was kidnapped and later released, once upon a time the road divided into two and the only way to camp was via the seashore, yet they forged ahead.

This is testament to, if Rurals embrace peace and dialogue, Development will come.

I hope Ohaji people of imo state are observing this.

The heading is wrong. It is not correct. How do Chevron, Shell, Mobil, Total, etc export their oil?

cheesy grin grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy

So other companies have not been exporting before Tinubu took over. Na Tinubu do the PIB? Na him and Buhari initiate am? A private company built its terminal and you are praising Tinubu?

PIB is not the reason why the company built the terminal bros.

Even other Tinubu supporters dey shame for you.
