Combined Passing Out Parade of 72RC alongside Short Service Course 48 Army, Direct Short Service Course 33 and Branch Commission 2 Air Force. A total of 874 officer cadets were commissioned into various branches of the armed forces of Nigeria.

Beating of Retreat: NDA’s Unwavering Commitment to Excellence in Training Commendable – COT( A)
…As Abbysinia Battalion Emerges Champion

The Chief of Training Army , COT (A),Major General AS Ndalolo, has commended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for its outstanding record and unwavering commitment to producing highly trained officers capable of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Major General Ndalolo gave this commendation while delivering his address as Special Guest of Honour (SGOH) at the Beating of The Retreat and Prize Giving Ceremony in honour of Passing Out Cadets (POCs)of 72 Regular Course , Short Service Course 48 (Army), Direct Short Service Course 33, and Branch Commission 2 ( Air Force). The colourful event was held on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, at the RSM Oliver Nzalgana Parade Ground, Afaka.

Expressing confidence in the cadets’ ability to surmount future challenges, the COT (A) urged them to remain vigilant, disciplined, and focused until their commissioning, stressing that the period between training completion and final graduation is critical. “It is not over until it is truly over,” he warned.

Congratulating the POCs on attaining this milestone, Major General Ndalolo charged them to uphold democratic values, remain disciplined, and stay committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests amidst growing security challenges. He further described the Beating of Retreat as a timeless military tradition that not only marks the end of the training year but also celebrates the resilience, discipline, and excellence of officer cadets.

In his remarks, the Commandant NDA, Major General AK Ibrahim OFR, reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to producing officers who are physically fit, mentally sound, and morally upright. He noted that the Beating of Retreat provides a platform to reward outstanding performances in academics, sports, and military activities.

The highlight of the evening was the presentations of Indian Shield to deserving cadets , half and full blues to cadets who distinguished themselves during the trainee year , emergence of Abyssinia Battalion as Champion Battalion after securing 6 trophies across various competitions in the 2024/2025 training year. Several trophies were also presented to Battalions for exceptional achievements in drills, sports, and other military endeavours.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, NDA’s Director of Military Training, Brigadier General T Ahmed, appreciated all who contributed to the success of the ceremony, with special recognition to the SGOH for his presence and inspiring remarks.

The event drew senior military commanders, paramilitary officers, senior civilian staff of the Academy, members of the Nigerian Defence Academy Officers Wives Association (NDAOWA), members of services officers’ wives association families of cadets, and other dignitaries.

The evening’s programme featured a thrilling combat match demonstration by the Alpha Combat Team, silent drill by cadets, a callisthenics display by Instructors of the Army Physical Training School, as well as the combined Band stirring performance of the traditional Beating of Retreat, culminating in bonfire ceremony performed by the SGOH.

Let me educate you a little,,d five years for d regulars used to be tough and everyday used to be one challenge or the other..So hope of passing out after spending years was very slim..You see someone that had already spent 5years plus and about to pass being withdrawn or dismissed as d case maybe..
So a lot of all these big men so to say doesn't want the same faith to befall their children or wards hence the elongation in the service of d non regulars..They now call it CONVERSION..

After all these wahala, their salary no dey pass 250k per month for starting. Nigerian uniforms job take home package is very discouraging. Their reward is in heaven.

The thing about public service is that to climb up isn't necessarily about how good you are. If you don't have someone to speak for you in the halls of power you will just work your ass off and be taken advantage of. Congratulations to them and I wish them the best on this new journey.

Each time I look back and see what has become of the Nigerian military today, I only thank God for not approving my enlistment into NDA many many years ago, despite an inch to make it. It was a proud and worthy institution years back. Today I'm grateful to God because I don't know what would have become my fate.

You can’t compare someone that went to a regular university and came in through short service based on experience. What’s 5 rigorous years compared to medical school or writing algorithms as an engineer? Respect should be given to them equally.

Please do you have an idea of their salary?

I’m currently thinking of applying for SSC 49 when it’s time. I know the money is not much, but it is an integral part of my decision making.

I’ve also applied to a job that had over 6,000 applicants and only your one and only was accepted. Life’s tough everywhere man, NDA na beans bro, the success rate is over 90%. Go to any math department, medical school or school of pharmacy in a Nigerian university, you’ll understand what brutality is.
