The Lagos Trade Fair Demolition: A Test of Impunity, Justice and Compassion

Today, alongside Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, Col. Austin Akobundu, Tony Nwoye, Honourable Members of the House of Representatives, Segun Sowonmi, George Adegeye, Labour Party Lagos State Gubernatorial candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and coordinator of the Obidient Movement Tanko Yunusa, we visited the site of the demolished ASPAMDA Market at the Trade Fair in Lagos, where plazas were pulled down despite traders having obtained the requisite approvals.

I must commend the traders for their remarkable restraint and calm in the face of such painful loss. I equally appreciate the Senators and the House of Representatives members who have pledged to investigate this matter thoroughly and bring to light the circumstances that led to this unfortunate development, and most importantly, ensure that the situation does not occur in the future.

Beyond this immediate case, I urge government at all levels to act with compassion, fairness, and a deep sense of justice, especially at this difficult time. Many of the affected traders invested heavily - often through loans - in the hope of securing their livelihoods and contributing to the wider economy. To destroy such legitimate investments without due process is not only unjust but also economically destructive.

A society that seeks to make progress must protect enterprise, encourage productivity, and defend the dignity of its citizens. Incidents like this should have no place in a nation that aspires to fairness, stability, and shared prosperity.

What action did you take on this?

when ipob locked their SE up every Monday for years they refused to protest against it, but because it is SW they are now fast to protest.

Lagos is not a no man's land afterall..

Invest in your home State to avoid unnecessary noise.. Anambra State Govt. can demolish 2,000 shops and displace thousands of traders without backlash but Lagos State Govt. can't demolish a few shops in Tradefair. Dey play.

It so sickening that these people come out and claim that th le complex is a ferdal government site but they will shy away from their knowledge that it is that Lagos state government that gives approval for its development.also that many buildings were not touched and they didn’t ask themselves why.the fact remains that no court will hear their cry, since they have been crying all over the media, none of the owners of the demolished buildings have come out with an approved building plan to defend.hypocrites

That's the reason why SanwoOlu must stop Peter Obi from coming to Lagos to create crises and tension through his myopic and tribalistic instinct

I don’t understand Yoruba leadership with their slow to act and silence in the face of sheer provocation. I don’t know where this obsession with Lagos is heading oooo because these people have lost it totally. They must be cured of the madness one way or another.

Freedom of movement doesn't guarantee freedom to crises, Peter Obi coming to Lagos state with retinue of lieutenants is amount to an invasion which no serious governor should tolerate.
Governor of Benue and Edo saw through mischief of Obi and stopped him from visiting their states to cause crises, I don't know why SanwoOlu is always reactive in instances he should be decisive and proactive
