I don't know how to go about the process, starting from the schools to apply, the requirements from Nigerians, the visa application process, the funds required for the whole process, etc.

I have gone through the pages here, but it seems confusing. It's not straightforward like UK, Canada applications. I also have not seen undergraduate applications too....na masters and PhD I saw.
Don't be mean please...the Canada application I did, I got the information here and applied myself, no one did it for me...I couldn't continue because of the funds.

Most of these non English speaking countries do not have an easy and straightforward application process. I literally slept here last night trying to understand the country (Japan) but it seems like it's not sinking.

Okay, I am sorry for my harsh words.

Regarding undergraduate, the information is scarce because most courses, and I am not sure your programme is excluded, are offered in Japanese. Also, there is the EJU, which is an entrance examination for foreigners into Japanese universities at the undergraduate level. My concern is your age, as language schools might be hesitant in admitting you. An overlooked aspect in undergraduate education outside Nigeria (even if na Ghana) is funding. How do you intend to fund this education for the next 3-4 years?

The other option is to use your HND to apply to national universities as a research student (minimum of six months and max of 12 months). If asked about your degree status, do well to explain the differences and put forward your distinction result to show how brilliant and disciplined you are. The other option is to apply to English teaching jobs, which will offer you an entry into the country, then you can pivot to a degree-based education as you save up some funds.

For Japan, the bottleneck isn't the visa but the admission and funding. Once the admission is secured and the school is satisfied with your funding arrangements, the COE is mailed, and with the COE, visa issuance is almost certain.

Ok, I had a serious issue in Nigeria. I had booked my flight to leave via Qatar Airways, but on getting to the Qatar desk in Nigeria the agent profiling me started asking for all sorts of things, my degree certificate, my nysc certificate, my admission letter, and all sort of nonsense. After I presented everything he then went and asked if I had paid my school fees. I told him I had paid and showed him the receipt. The man said he needed to see money leaving my Nigerian account to the Japanese account.
Meanwhile I had paid the money to a family friend who used his own money in Japan to pay so he didn't necessarily need to move money from Nigeria to Japan. This Qatar agent just went loco on me, he insisted I bought a return ticket again.
I was like how do you buy a return ticket on a two year travel visa? What date would I put on it?
To cut the long story short the man wickedly made me miss my flight. I was devastated,I then met one of his colleagues who said I should come the next day.
I got to the airport the next day and the there was a little back and forth with some of them at the desk and a more reasonable person asked me some questions and said he would allow me fly that I was good to go. But then I had to rebook another flight since I add missed my first flight but then no extra seat so I had go back home again. Anyways the all scenario set me back another 900k to rebook another flight for Wednesday. Got to the airport met with the people who profiled me on Saturday and finally left the country on the 1st of October.

P.S. The worst experience a Black African person (mostly men) can get in this region is being in detention. It is better one goes back quietly. Japan is even better. Outside the big East Asian countries and maybe Singapore (provided no drugs), it is better for the person to relocate to Kwara or Borno than be inside detention in Asia.

I was told I need a personal seal (inkan/hanko) to open a bank account or sign a mobile contract here in Japan. A kind Japanese neighbor I just met this evening even drove me to a Daiso store, but unfortunately, I couldn’t buy a seal — they only sell ones with Japanese kanji names.

My family name (I’m Igbo) is written in katakana, so it wasn’t available.

To those of you who’ve already been through this — @Gerra.rd59, @blac.kbriar, @judecar.es1 — how did you get your inkan made, especially if your name isn’t in kanji?

Also, I’m currently relying on my dormitory’s free Wi-Fi. Once I step outside, I can’t access the internet because I don’t have a Japanese SIM card yet. Without it, it’s been really hard to move around or use essential apps like Google Maps — it’s affecting my ability to settle in.
