I have always looked at Mike Ozekhome (SAN?) with askance because of his penchant for fraternizing with people of questionable characters.

If this exposè turns out to be true, then he must be sanctioned and brought to justice immediately.

Those who come to equity, they say, must come with clean hands.

Could this become the end of the road for the celebrity lawyer?

Time, yes time alone, will tell.

Hehehe.

Nigeria is indeed a headquarters of corruption.

Looters everywhere, and they keep developing another country with their loot.

Wicked people.
Looters everywhere, especially those who pretend to be redeemed saints of Oshiomhole’s Assembly of Past Criminals, APC.

No wonder Buhari quickly agreed with David Cameron that he himself and all of us 200 million Nigerians are fantastically corrupt. shocked

socialmediaman:
The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.

There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.

Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.

In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.

There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.

PANDORA PAPERS: Buhari visited Tinubu in corruption-tainted London villa acquired by Oyetola

Governor Oyetola, a relative of Mr Tinubu, may have sabotaged his own country by buying the exotic property as Nigeria made to seize it.

ByNicholas IbekweandTaiwo-Hassan Adebayo October 7, 2021 in Headline Stories, Pandora Papers Reading Time: 8 mins read

It was a meeting of two of Nigeria’s most influential politicians in London – President Muhammadu Buhari was visiting political kingmaker and senior member of his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

In July, the presidency announced that Mr Buhari was heading to London for an education summit. The office also added that the president would also see his doctors for “medical check-up”.

Coincidentally, Mr Tinubu, who had travelled to London earlier, was also receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in the British capital. So, a perfect setting for both men to meet was created.

Have you also been looking at Tinubu’s CoS, who was previously HoR Speaker with askance?

oshozondii:
Former Nigerian House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has been terminated as a licensed lawyer of the State Bar of Georgia in the United States after his corruption and ethical lapses outstripped acceptable thresholds for members, Peoples Gazette can report.

The Nigerian politician, who currently serves as the chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, himself a man of uncountable scandals, was ostracised from the prestigious body effective July 1, 2020, according to records recently obtained by The Gazette. He was found to have stolen money from a client and also failed to pay his membership fees.

Mr Gbajabiamila’s disgrace in the U.S. underscores yet again the gulf between civilisations that exert fair and available instruments to foster accountability versus Nigeria, where transparently fraudulent, odious figures are in charge of the most consequential positions of authority.

For several weeks, Mr Gbajabiamila dodged The Gazette’s requests for comments about his corruption and punishment in the U.S. A spokesman for the State House also failed to send in comments that were promised after several weeks.

Georgia Bar officials told The Gazette that Mr Gbajabiamila’s latest ordeal began when a client filed a grievance against him for theft. Mr Gbajabiamila subsequently ignored the bar and stopped paying his fees and other membership obligations. The Gazette was told that attempts were made to reach Mr Gbajabiamila through his Peachtree Road address in Atlanta, but he frustrated it all.

On July 2, 2015, Mr Gbajabiamila was suspended for five years, The Gazette learnt. The suspension was finally approved as a permanent termination of his membership on July 1, 2020. Mr Gbajabiamila, who was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia on June 29, 2001, was the Speaker of the House of Representatives at the time of his infractions in the U.S.

“He can no longer practice law in the state of Georgia,” an official told The Gazette. “He’s done.”

In a unanimous decision on February 26, 2007, the Supreme Court of Georgia approved the suspension of Mr Gbajabiamila for 36 months, after he admitted stealing $25,000 from a client. He was reinstated after serving out his suspension, only for him to commit another infraction that led to his final dismissal.

Mr Gbajabiamila, “who has only been a member of the bar since 2001, admits that he accepted payment of $25,000 as settlement of a client’s personal injury claims, deposited those funds in his attorney trust account in January 2003, failed to promptly disburse those funds to his client, withdrew those funds for his own use, closed his practice and moved out of the country,” the court said at the time.

Mr Gbajabiamila, who had already been a federal lawmaker for nearly four years before the verdict, paid the money back in 2006, a year before the judgement, in order to get lighter punishment, including being disbarred.

Whereas Mr Gbajabiamila has suffered the consequences of his known offenses in the U.S., which spanned from the early aughts through 2020, his corruption in Nigeria has gone unpunished. In 2021, Mr Gbajabiamila was among top lawmakers and government ministers who received heavy bribes from private businessmen to undercut local communities in passing the controversial 2021 law regulating the Nigerian hydrocarbon industry.

Goes to show how lawyers in this country become "successful" by fighting on the side of graft. Most Senior Advocates in this funny country would be senior prisoners in a country that works

Tomorrow one misguided element will tell you that neo-colonialism is why we remain underdeveloped.

He will tell you that the problem of Africa is the whiteman.

How can a people or country develop when it's so fantastically corrupt?

I worry for this country. There are corrupt schemes; visible and invisible. Schemes with and without government blessings and participation. I really fear for this country.

A great writeup by a true patriot.

In saner countries, heads would have rolled since over this Ozekhome embarrassment.
Corruption is entrenched in almost every part of the world. I see a bloodbath happening soon in the future as revolutions occur to upset the applecart.

Mike Ozekhome that has been a military apologist since Babangida era. He has always been Jeremiah Usenis boy.
In fact in 1992 or there about he was Useni's representative on the panel that probed the Nigeria Customs and Excise department. This was the panel that changed the Customs uniform to the present colour and General Abacha's brother was awarded the contract to supply all the brand new uniforms.
All this rubbish did not start today. Ozekhome was Useni's front and legal bag man far back!!!

Nigeria runs on a criminal legal system.

What a legal system stands against worldwide is what Nigeria legal system stands for

Hahaha! Nigerian judiciary is a cesspit of corruption from Top to bottom. When Dele Farotimi released that book about their shady ways, didn't they take the book out of circulation. Nigeria is gone to the Dogs.

Na criminals occupy positions because most Nigerians are criminals. That's just the sad fact.
Remove them all today and replace them with new Nigerians, the same thing will still happen. What does that tell you about Nigerians?
