Controversial freelancer and social media personality, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Corper Raye, has sparked heated reactions after announcing that she quit volunteering with an NGO that supports single mothers. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Raye recounted how she became frustrated when one of the beneficiaries revealed she was expecting another child.

She wrote:

Two months ago I volunteered with an NGO to cater for single mothers and see how we can foot some bills. Tell me why one of the single mothers said God has blessed her again? Meaning she’s pregnant! How are you a single mother and pregnant? I’ve quit volunteering please!

Mixed reactions online

Her post quickly went viral, with users divided over her decision. While some supported her stance, noting that welfare initiatives are sometimes abused, others criticized her for being judgmental and insensitive.

One user countered:

“You can’t wait to want to be socially correct to be a kind person. What she deems a blessing in her experience is not up for your own judgment. Her story could also teach us that perhaps educating and orienting women is more important than supplying them hand-outs.”

Raye claps back

Unfazed by the backlash, Corper Raye doubled down, insisting she was only venting her frustration. She lashed out at critics in a fiery response:

“One thing about me is I don’t care what society thinks. I’ve been called rude, stubborn, and all sorts of names. Do you think I give AF? This was me just venting. So many things I’ve done behind closed doors that I never mentioned. I was just frustrated and venting. That aside, you are mentally not okay. Stupid MFs always waiting to criticize me for existing and tweeting like everyone else. You hate that my tweet gets people talking and not yours? Nonsense behavior.”

Her blunt remarks have since fueled further debate, with many calling the incident another example of her unfiltered online persona.

She complained about Lagos being dirty and smelly and she was right. Nothing has been done to clean the shits and dirty littered all over Lagos State and the refuse trucks that park close to isheri - igando road are a disgusting eyesore.human faeces and waste are shitty and smelly in all the canals, gutters and drainage in mile 2, ojuelegba,orile, ogba, Lagos island.you can see cows moving around the major express and inland roads in Lagos and if u are not careful, you may step on cow dungs littered on the road. Many people I believe now wine up their car glass windows and on their AC always when driving because of the irritating smells in different locations on the road. Traders, pedestrians and all manner of persons use the roads and gutters in Lagos to urinate.at oshodi brt bypass, you need to see the inhuman wicked sickening smell that comes from different urines on the road.no fresh air!! You can't even breath well.we need to recall back LAWMA personals of the Gov fashola days to come back because Lagos State is getting dirtier and causing health diseases every day as the environment is unclean and very dirty down to the gutters and people's homes and shops.very congested and dirty .those PSP guys should be fired ,they are useless and they are only after payment and money. they are not doing any good job to make Lagos clean.

This idea of paid impression on social media has made a lot of people quite huseless to society though and sensible discussions - I always insist on not dignifying ignorance with a response because most of them will clap back rather than engage in conversation - clap backs get more reach, and also gets featured on NL FP.

She has a right to speak her mind, and also has a right to be ignored.

It's difficult to help people address the outcome of a poor mentality without first addressing their mentality which is the source of the problem.

If you work in an NGO that targets rural communities or the less privileged, you will see things that would affect your mental health.
There is an illusion they have it simpler, happier and less dramatic __this is very untrue.

One of the reasons I have started waiting UNTIL you really beg me before I render any assistance if I want to . A lot of people no really worth the stress. You go see them, pity and help them only for them to indirectly use you talk later.

Free money can make someone more comfortable.

Basically, it's like welfare in the USA. Welfare was originally concieved as short term payments until you got a job...and yes, some Americans use it that way. But most just use it as free ATM, and don't work again.

NGO's should train people to work...and the government should stop running an oil dependent economy, so that we become productive, and thus have more jobs for all.

You very very RIGHT. Same in the military. You keep fighting thinking One day the enemies would finish ONLY after a long long time, you realize there's no single impact at all. A lot of them just turn around and become the bad guys themselves.

Na when I matured to an extent, I understood why it's like the wealthy don't like assisting the poor and vulnerable. And you go think say na just the illiterate ones; see eh, even the educated ones are no different.

Probably the total population of single mothers when She joined was 400 BUT rather than the numbers dropping, it's multiplying. Na probably because she meant well make am comot. Those who are there mostly for their own GAINs wouldn't dare leave.

and the funny thing is THEY tend to LIVE longer than those w ho they BEG from. Imagine making money with very little to no STRESS while your GIVERs stress themselves on your behalf.

A lot of those BEGGERs would turn down a gainful emplyment if opportunity arises. I know this because e get 2 people like that wey I happily helped. One na for security job of 35,000 naira during Buhari's tenor; Oga come work for just 9-days and that was it. The employer kukuma understood what I didn't know as at then.
