Weapons...... 8/10

Great horror movie. Nice acting and storytelling.
Easily one of the best horror films of the year.
Top tier satisfying ending right there. Most horror films these days make the villain happily ride into the sunset but this one gave us a really befitting ending from all our troubles.

The Lost Bus: 7.3/10
Really good disaster movie. My only issue with the movie is the shaky camera.

Sinners was good but yeah, I'll agree with you, so far based on the limited numbers of horror I've watched this year it's among the best but far off the pecking order against Weapons and Bring Her Back.
Sally Hawkins — I got to pay more attention to her from The Shape of Water.....it's a pretty good film but I thought that film was a little overhyped when it released and shouldn't have won Best Picture that year compared to the quality of the competition it faced off with.
But for Hawkins? I got no issue with her performance, she was top tier that year. I love Guillermo Del Toro but The Shape of Water win wasn't it for me.
Nightmare Alley for me would be GDT's best movie, my favourite would be Pan's Labyrinth. Pinnochio was also very good. I'm eagerly anticipating Frankenstein coming out this October.

On Weapons, why Alex couldn't do it earlier was probably because he was still a kid and was still in shock and didn't really know how to react and what to do. Aunt Gladys was also cautious and didn't let her guard down till the final moments. And that final day was the best chance for Alex to show any resistance since he's proved to be docile and amiable to her. She let her guard down thinking she had a home run already so it worked against her.
Yeah, the homeless dude vs the cop were so hilarious. Truly satisfying ending I tell you.

Heretic was top tier and one of the good things to have come out of horror genre last year. Fully introduced me to that actress Sophie Thatcher. I have her in my sights now.

Jang Jae-Hun was so effing top tier with Exhuma.... easily the best horror film I watched this year. I look forward to more of his filmography.
Together and Wednesday S2 downloaded but yet to start....

Since you're already into foreign language films and deeply in the horror genre, I'd suggest you watch Na Hong-Jin's The Wailing— that film has automatically been my best horror film of all time with the superb storytelling and history it displayed with excellent performances. Quite similar to Exhuma.

Do well to also watch Park Chan Wook's Oldboy. It's not necessarily horror but it's one of the absolute top tier foreign language films to watch at least once in a lifetime if you're deep in international films. It's a narrative masterpiece.
Top tier introduction into the director. Someone to put into your list.

A master of troubled people and morally gray characters, controversial themes and easily one of the best directors currently in the game.
Thank you for the recommendations. I started watching "The long walk" today. Although it's not horror but I am liking it already.

The Medium (2021)...... 6.5/10
Language: Thai

Produced by Na Hong-Jin (writer-director of The Wailing), I had very high expectations for this. Had an interesting premise but the final delivery was a let down. Especially when it's been years —since 2021 when I initially saw the trailer where I have been wanting to see it and searched everywhere for it back then.

Has one of the slowest beginnings for a horror flick. The mockumentary style was at first a little bit off-putting as it took me out of the story sometimes, but I adjusted to it several minutes later.

It's a story about a shaman family in Thailand who are plagued by an affliction to their daughter. To make appeasement to their family goddess Ba Yan, the family later found out there's more to the possession of Mink. It is neck deep in Isan culture and their way of seeing deities, spirits and otherworldly entities.

It had great build up, things really kicked off around the 45mins+ and good sustaining tension and intrigue. It's a creepy tale, not one with too many jumpscares but with an eery feel.
The last few minutes was a let down with the execution, shït became over the top and many of the action while creepy and scary came out funny to me as I was laughing my heart out in the middle of the night while many of the characters met their sad fate. I gotta give it to it tho, it made very good use of the found footage style and made it feel authentic but too many characters with utterly stupid choices and behaviour to progress the story— a staple of the horror genre, was too much to overlook and ultimately led to the story taking a hit.

Too many characters not caring for their safety and making weird decisions, some seemed very unrealistic as it goes against human very instinctive nature to flee when danger is perceived. The problem lies in where not one or two characters behaving in this unique way. It's an issue when almost every body is involved in the tomfoolery.

Conjuring: Last Rites....... 6/10

The writing and storytelling don't quite capture the magic of the earlier films, but it's a decent watch.

Of all the supernatural entities the Warrens have faced, this one didn't leave as strong an impression. It started with a compelling premise, but the final act and its execution didn't fully deliver. It's not a bad film, but it lacks the personal, intimate feel of other Conjuring installments. Even The Devil Made Me Do It, which had its own narrative stumbles, feels more complete than this.

Valak and Annabelle are still the most memorable entities the Warrens have encountered. While this may not be the grand finale one hoped for, they managed to wrap things up well enough.

I feel the direction from Michael Chaves doesn't quite have the same storytelling punch as previous directors in the franchise.

You have to hand it to WB's marketing team tho—they made this the highest-grossing film in the franchise, pulling in a chart-topping $450mn. It cements the series' status as the reigning champion of horror box office.

The Conjuring: Last Rites:5.5/10

After The Conjuring 1 and 2, everything else has been a shadow of what made the series great. Honestly, I miss James Wan, his absence literally took the soul out of the franchise. The newer movies just don’t hit the same. Maybe it’s me, or maybe I’ve seen too many Hollywood horror films, that nothing really makes my skin crawl anymore. The jump scares in Last Rites were so predictable you could see them coming a mile away.

I understand it's based off actually events and they wanted to make it more character-driven, but the story dragged its feet with too much talk and too little tension. Some scenes felt like filler. At one point, I wasn’t even sure if I was still watching a horror movie or a slow family drama. The setup had promise, but the spark didn’t show up until the last 30 minutes.

For me, The Conjuring: Last Rites is like a candle burning out, it flickers with moments of hope but never truly lights up the room. A lackluster farewell to a franchise that once redefined fear.

Your best wahlberg flick aside transformers?
I loved his performance in Lone Survivor and The Fighter. Lone Survivor was solid no doubt about that. He really carried the intensity and emotion of the story. But, The Fighter is hands down his best movie for me. He felt completely real there, quiet, determined, and full of heart. It wasn’t just about boxing, it was about family, struggle, and self-belief. You could literally feel the weight of every choice he made. That’s the movie where Mark didn’t just act tough, he owned and became the character.

Red sonja is a solid 5.5/10 for me.
These people had the chance, the GOD giving opportunity and a life time opportunity to make a series that might have been considered as one of the greatest series ever and they messed it up with crappy writings and low budget casts and then bringing it out as a movie.
The cinematography and pictures of this movie is a 10/10 for me but they messed up everything with their writings and choices of low budgets casts.
The owners should have presented the idea to Giants like Netflix, HBO etc for better budget and then a series.
Netflix or HBO will then seek for more powerful and famous casts, the main actress can be an actress with huge social media followings and very talented and the series would have been an instant hit with 8 to 10 episodes.

Series that would have rivaled legendary shows like Vikings, Last kingdom and co.

Anyways it is what it is

Mantis is a solid 7/10 for me.
Another nice and solid k drama.
Totally enjoyable and then the blood and gore is brutal.
Action and fights are top notch for me.

One of the movies that i had to repeat fight scenes again and again because they were Damm cool.

The Smashing Machine got knocked out at the BO!! grin

What is this film's business with a $50mn price tag, not including marketing? A24 never learn e lesson.
$6mn domestic opening for a Dwayne Johnson starrer? Shambolic!!

The hierarchy of power did actually change. 🤧

Drive My Car........ 7/10
Language: Japanese

A proper slow burn and pretty much boring most times I struggled with it for 2 days+ while dosing off at night. The long runtime of almost 3hrs is another challenge.

It's a nice story dealing with personal relationships, grief and regret. I actually loved the cinematography and colors.
