Lagos Street Renamed To Honour Adekunle Gold: From Local Dreamer To Global Star by alphonsojidebab(op): 5:44am On Oct 07, 2025
Award-winning Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold, fondly known as AG Baby, has received a touching tribute in Lagos — the very street where he grew up has now been renamed in his honour. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The newly unveiled “Adekunle Kosoko Street” (bearing his real name) stands as a proud recognition of his inspiring journey from modest beginnings to international acclaim.

In an emotional ceremony captured on video, Adekunle Gold was joined by his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Deja, as they unveiled the new nameplate together. The moment was filled with nostalgia and gratitude, symbolising a full-circle return to the place where his dreams began.

A Celebration of Legacy, Growth, and Family

The street renaming is more than a ceremonial gesture — it’s a celebration of Adekunle Gold’s evolution as an artist, a husband, and a father.

Before becoming one of Africa’s most respected music exports, Adekunle Gold started out as a graphic designer with a passion for storytelling through sound. Over the years, he has delivered timeless hits such as Sade, Orente, and Party No Dey Stop, redefining modern Afrobeats with his unique blend of highlife and urban sound.

Having his family by his side during the unveiling underscored his journey — not just of fame, but of grounded success and unity. It was a moment that beautifully mirrored his values: love, authenticity, and legacy.
A Symbol of Hope for the Next Generation

The dedication of Adekunle Kosoko Street has quickly become a beacon of hope for young Nigerians across the country. It represents the idea that greatness can emerge from the most humble corners of Lagos — that with hard work, creativity, and faith, anyone can rewrite their story.

For many, the gesture is more than a personal honour for Adekunle Gold — it’s a cultural statement that celebrates Nigerian excellence and the power of representation.

As Adekunle Gold continues to take his sound to global stages, the street that once witnessed his early struggles now carries his name proudly — a lasting reminder that dreams truly do come true.

See someone they are naming a street after for goodness sake. How is this one a good example to the younger ones in appearance, character and morals? That this is the easiest way to fame and stardom? We need to redefine what is called achievement in life o.

This is truly inspiring. The sky is big enough to contain all the stars. Lessons has been learnt, as long as you put in the work and grind your name and legacies can be immortalized even before death comes knocking.

This is great. This would make him to be indebted to Lagos for ever, to want to do more to allude accolades to Lagos in the category of his musical profession, likewise, would make other upcoming artists of Lagos origins or Yorubas in general to be inspired. This is far better than those funny street names such as Ojo Ajangbadi, Ile Epo, Moshalasi, Bole kaja, etc.....

How can Lagos state government justify renaming a street after a musician instead of people such as DOCTORS, PROFESSORS etc that sacrifice and toil daily by making sure the society health and wellbeing is sustained?

What examples are they laying education-wise?

How can i stomach this?

Rename street to someone who has done little to nothing in Lagos.

People who came to an isolated wilderness, bought a piece of land, developed the land, built schools, hospital, provided source of water, brought partners to buy and develope that once an isolated wilderness..
Then so group of hatefilled nonentity will wakeup one morning and rescind that land name to one fellow nonentity.

We gather dey here dey watch.
