Start looking into the most popular exterior paint colours for homes in the UK and one shade immediately stands out. It is, of course, the ever popular grey.

The monthly search volume for grey masonry paint during the period we researched stood at a whopping 24,190 searches, a number which far exceeded any of the other colours users were searching for.

Topping the popularity charts for exterior house paint were grey shades of light, slate, dark, charcoal, Plymouth and gravel. This shows a natural evolution from last year’s huge interest in grey decor for interiors, with paints like Zoffany’s ‘Paris Grey’ and Farrow & Ball’s ‘Down Pipe’ in high demand across the UK.

The runner up of white saw less than half of the searches that grey did, with 11,430 searches per month. In third place was black masonry paint, which attracted 8,230 monthly search queries over the period we analysed.

white and cream are very impractical colours for houses.

i joined ***** in 2006. at that time they were painting their petrol stations dove gray. for some reason in 2009-10, they decided to start painting white As a naija matter, almost everyone in the industry followed suit


white is insanely hard to maintain. you wash every six months, paint every two years. sometimes it gets dirtied as you are painting, esp if there is fuel scarcity.

Total nigeria sifted to brown and white few years back and their maintenance costs are better for it

white paint on a building exterior is a white elephant project. and some choose to go for white texcote

People use white or cream as a concept and to make a statement. White is not hard to maintain as you think and neither is it a white elephant project. Invest in the right type of paint like self cleaning and dust repellent paint.

I agree with you. Choosing the right type of paint is important in any project. Here is white paint from Gbadexy we used for this project, for some years now, the white is still brilliant, even though the road is untarred and dusty.

By the way, gate is courtesy of Michilins.
