The draws for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments have been made. Nigeria has already qualified for the World Cup as winners of the Women's Afrobasket, however, we are still required to play in the tournament and this will provide valuable game time for DTigress.

The Group D qualifying tournament will take place in Villeurbanne, France and it will begin on March 11th, 2026. Here are the teams in the group.

Colombia, Philipines, Germany, South Korea, France and Nigeria.

The draws (all the groups) :

Tournament A will be held in Wuhan, China.

Mali, South Sudan, Brazil, Belgium, Czech Republic and China.

Tournament B will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

New Zealand, Puerto Rico, United States, Senegal, Italy, Spain.

Tournament C will be held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Hungary, Turkey, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Japan

Tournament D will be held in Villeurbanne, France.

Colombia, Philipines, Germany, South Korea, France and Nigeria.

How they qualified for the qualifying tournaments.

The teams that will take part in the qualifying tournaments are:

Hosts: Germany.

Two winners of pre-qualifying tournaments: Czech Republic and Hungary.

Top four teams in 2025 Women's Afrobasket: Nigeria, Mali, South Sudan and Senegal.

Top six teams in 2025 Women's AmeriCup: United States, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Colombia and Puerto Rico.

Top six teams in 2025 Women's Asia Cup: Australia, Japan, China, South Korea, New Zealand and Philipines.

Top five teams of 2025 Eurobasket Women: Belgium, Spain, Italy, France, Germany.

These teams have already qualified for the World Cup, but are still required to take part in the qualifying tournaments.

Germany: Host of the World Cup.

Belgium: Winner of Eurobasket.

United States: Winner of AmeriCup

Australia: Winner of Asia Cup

Nigeria: Winner of Afrobasket

Time for the coach to try new players and also strengthen the team

I think this should be an avenue for the coach to chip in new ladies before the main event. May God keep us all alive and in good health before and after the events.
