No, they don't use the same scale, some are very poor even though they're under presidency while some are good, let the name 'Presidency' not deceive you, HARDLY will you find an 'A' class agency under presidency, most are poor and average with some very very few good ones

Those are contract or casual staff bro. TCN and NNPC are the two major agencies that employ contract staff. Go to refineries, most of those who do the dirty jobs are contract or casual staff. Same goes with TCN, the contract staff do the dirty field work but get paid peanuts. That's the reason for strike

You re wrong with this information, contract staff that was employed were not a filed workers and there's no dirty job in Tcn.

I mean instead of just saying his friends are economical, he should back it up with something like “coming from an insider”, or “coming from someone who has an insider”.

The first guy said he asked his two friends on two different occasions, one even showed him payslips. While the second came out to say they are being economical with their facts without any reason why he said so.

The first guy is more convincing now. Except if he is lying.

💯 accurate!!! This is exactly what my sister said, she said “so they earn more than us” and she’s also 2019 set. And my cousin that just started said “ah ya D it’s a lie o” me i just replied them with “u people just don’t want to tell me the truth so I won’t cry”

This is also true, I've said it here times without number that we overestimate the pays of these agencies, that's why someone will get a job in a decent place but due to what he has been reading here he will be disappointed when he receive his first pay, when this debate came up around April this year about NNPC GT total package, even on Twitter it was just debates everywhere, I contacted TWO of my friends who were NNPC staff 2019 set which means they have spent 5 years, they didn't know I asked the both of them same question, one is in head office while the other is in Benin, they both laughed and said even they that have spent 5 years in NNPC don't have monthly take-home of 2M, they have allowances but as the writer below have said not all are monthly, some are annual, quarterly or often, one of them said people overrate their pay just because they hear NNPC, if 5 years staff don't earn 2M let alone GT, these are friends turned brothers, I see their payslips, one had to share just to clear my doubts even though he knew I didnt doubt him, we often compare the lifestyle of people we know in senior management level to new entrants, that's why NNPC staff rush at any opportunity of secondment at NLNG as one of them got recently. it's only put more pressure on them and over expectations, According to a survey in 2024 by Nigerian Financial Services Market that ONLY 2.4% of NIGERIANS earn above N200k. You can fact check all of the things I've said above. Bayo did an increment recently which I haven't seen the Payslip since then. They're good but we overrate them

The truth is, a lot of people don't want to believe that government jobs are not so rosy as they make them seem, especially in the first few years.

I saw someone compare IOCs to government jobs like NNPC. I just didn’t want to argue too much, which is why I left it, as they will be on par towards the middle of their career. The reason I even came to that conclusion is because towards the end of one's career, the money you are paid at work won't be the main thing, but the business and investments you have established. And I want to believe anyone, be it private or government, must have sorted that out by at least 20 years of working, except if you are not a serious person.

If one of my senior bros can be earning almost a million Naira salary working from a cryptocurrency exchange company for just working from home (15 days a week), watin government jobs want com show iocs.

Iocs that most of their children go to international schools in Lagos and abuja with politicians and foreign experts children. School you will be hearing school fees 40k dollars. Though i think the companies settle some portion (not sure).

In iocs your feeding is sorted out too. Balanced diet sef.

People dey collect salary of 10k dollars for this naija wey we de. There are certifications and trainings you will go to and achieve some kind feet in IOCs.


The richest doctor I know in Kaduna worked for WHO, not some government hospital or union. He makes a lot of money. He owns very popular hospitals here.

There another that works with MTN, baba fit de mid of him career, but you see house wey him tear for his aging parents. Him buy land inside town, demolish, pay one company to come build the house con buy car give them. That was like a long time when things were cheaper though, but calculate that money for current rates, baba spend like 100 million for him parents.

Even the politicians we are talking about, the reason they dont put their children there is because of serious competition and competency issue, thats why they stick to government jobs (where they can easily influence results).

This is because aside maybe the president, vice president, senate president, and a few others in their caliber, i dont think a senator, minister, or rep can influence the recruitment of all these places and put their children there.

I saw someone a few years back (I think around 2019) on Nairaland mentioned that Shell or Chevron paid his aunt $500million during retirement.

Another one mentioned his uncle travels from Warri to Lagos on a helicopter (though company-owned).

Though for personal reasons such as job security, I would pick a government job over a private one. Most government jobs are overrated, and private companies have a far better pay, unless you put siphoning money into the equation.

All the FIRS, CBN, etc workers i have seen in real life, their standard of living is not far ahead of the average core banker (not contract staff) or tech bros i see. They are very okay, have good cars, live in good houses, dress well, etc but not like you will see them building mansions or buying GLEs. Except their senior staffs

But their pay is super good to balance you, but then, you're just hustlin for ur family. With NNPC, you can have time with family, that's why you get to do fine.

I've 2 people in the IOC but, everyday, dem dey find way to be in Abuja. Nothin beat peace of mind & closing by 4pm. Weekend u drive out to enjoy sports etc.. IOC go gv u money, but na ur children go flex am😂💔

I swear,

I am happy I realized this early. During my undergraduate studies, I learned freelancing here on Nairaland with my old Nairaland profile.

I was 18 then, and when my first cash-out came, everyone was congratulating me saying “the sky is my limit” (LOL😂)

I was feeling on top of the world. I started saying, "I don't need a government job or any job to be precise."

The cash-out in dollars was sweet o, I became a big boy in school so much that some people started saying I was into fraud.

But as work choked me out, I started to lose focus in school. I was always working to meet a deadline.
I was always afraid a client might cancel a contract and give me a bad review.

Then I started to get scared that Fiverr or Upwork might disable my account. Every day I would message their customer support to check if I had violated their rules.

Slowly I slid into depression, my school grades dropped, and my life started going downhill.

I later recovered, but it taught me one thing, and that is the fact that money isn’t everything, and I am not built for pressure or uncertainty.

That is why I started learning Amazon KDP, so I can stack up more. While watching out for when a better government job comes, I'll just go for it

Someone posted his offer letter that is showing 7.4m you're still arguing?. The information isn't a secret. When NNPC released offers in April, the offers where flying over everywhere on social media. The figures were clearly stated there

there's nothing like job security with FG at best you just have a low probability of not losing your job for 35yrs

But in that 35yrs alot can happen especially for MDA and parastatals.
Things like outright sale, concession agreements and new policies from government can lead to downsizing or total loss of jobs

NPA use to have 20k plus workers but due to PPP around 2004. downsizing happened, more than 15k lost their jobs.

I'm currently scared for the likes of NNPC.
If the likes of Atiku & Peter obi comes into power there is a high chance they will sell NNPC off.

If you can be patient in IOC for 15yrs with planning, investment, assets and divestment of your resources.

You can resign and do the F**k you want with your life

IOC you just need 13-15 yrs of work to be OK in life.

Simply put in my above writeup, the concept of job security with Govt is just a myth.
