MARRIAGE IN SOUTH SUDAN: After the wedding, Even though the groom’s family pays a dowry, sometimes 100 to 500 cows, the new wife is treated with huge respect. For example, When a man marries, his wife does NOT cook or clean for 4 whole years. This time is called "Anyuuc" (Generous Welcome). The new bride simply rests, relaxes, & learns about her new family’s way of life. During these 4 years, the husband’s sister does all the hard work. She cooks, washes dishes, gets water, collects wood, & all other chores until the time is up. If she doesn't have a sister, he just employ someone to do it or he himself does the work, while the wife relaxes.. After 4 years, the husband throws a huge party called "Thaat" (Cooking Festival). They kill 3 cows & 5 goats! This party is the official start of the wife cooking for her family. This custom has a very important rule: If the husband treats his wife badly during the 4 years, she can simply decide to leave the marriage. She does not have to pay back the cows (dowry) or any other thing that was gifted to her during that period.. #inspiring #marriage #happy #marriage

This continent was not a poor continent, imagine using cow for marriage rites, how much be one cow. So person wey get four daughters go get like 2000 cows just like that. Enough said but these traditions have been rendered obsolete and impracticable replaced by suit and tie, kneel down propose with iron ring coated with gold |

Tell me you lack reading skills without telling me you lack reading skills, where does it says a man must do house chores for four years? And why is the antispam bot now allowing people to utter swear words freely in here? Seun, it's like you need to tighten the rules once again. Amsickindahead: |

South Sudanese women are the ones the West tried so hard to shove down our throats as the ideal, the standard for African beauty. The nerve of them white people! ![]() Not that they're not beautiful in their own rights sha. ![]() |

Interesting culture... I like it. Four year probation period. I think the whole culture and process has many advantages. I hope it's still preserved and practiced in Sudan till date! |

Are you thinking what I am thinking? Can we ship some Nigerian girls..hmm hmm, ladies👀...there? 🤔 Nigeria will be thousands of cows richer🤔. Tinubu needs to look into this👀(it's a wonderful business opportunity, a possible glorious bilateral relation with South Sudan) This should make our ladies ’more’ productive and stop wasting their time on hook ups👀, at least they can do something(meaningful👀) that will benefit both them and the Nation instead of opening their ’legs’ up, left, right, down and ’center’👀 to every tom, dick and harry—Now, it will be only to Deng😁. Someone should send this as a proposal to the President😁. Let's cash out some cows🥂. Moo🐮. |

I see no issue with the aforementioned rules/items, provided she's a virgin and not a leftover. Imagine paying those numbers of cows for a woman who different men have eaten for free before you later privatized her. Anyways, Sudan and Nigerian women are not the same sha. What do I even know sef aside enlightening my fellow men nationwide with the good news |

What you have failed to tell all these your uninformed and local people here is that the bride price and four-year freedom period is prominent in Dinka and Nuer cultures only, and more than 99 percent of the population among them do not observe the practices majorly due to poverty. |

Nice culture and tradition...! I hope it won't die or fritter away to Western influence, as we are seeing to many cultures in Nigeria and other African nations. Of course such a practice can't and won't work in a predominantly averagely earning or poor people. |
| Re: Marriage In South Sudan by jmoore(m): 5:59pm On Oct 08, 2025 |
Believe all these copy and paste at your own peril. Is South Sudan the most wealthiest country? You think cows are ants? |
| Re: Marriage In South Sudan by hatchy: 5:59pm On Oct 08, 2025 |
Amsickindahead:Don't say that about other people's way of life. We all can never reason or do things the same way. Learn how to respect other people's culture and lifestyle. The world is at war today because there are some people who can't tolerate others religious and cultural beliefs. Live and let live. |

For example, When a man marries, his wife does NOT cook or clean for 4 whole years. This time is called "Anyuuc" (Generous Welcome). This is unacceptable...an abomination In fact, that should be when the cooking of her life starts by her resuming work in her dedicated office |
