BouquiLake:Let’s break down the statement carefully: “If you could keep quiet and hear me out, you will appreciate my viewpoint.” Tone and Language Analysis 1. Politeness markers The phrase starts with “If you could …” which is often a polite, indirect way of making a request (more courteous than saying “Keep quiet and listen to me”). The use of “you will appreciate my viewpoint” expresses confidence but not necessarily hostility. 2. Potentially rude element The phrase “keep quiet” is quite blunt and directive. In English, it often sounds like a command (similar to “shut up”) and can come across as abrupt or rude. A more courteous alternative would be “remain silent”, “hold your comments”, or “listen for a moment”. 3. Overall tone The statement is assertive — the speaker is asking for silence so they can explain their viewpoint. Because of the wording (“keep quiet”), it may be perceived as mildly rude or brusque, especially in formal or sensitive contexts. In informal situations among friends, it might be taken as direct but not offensive. Conclusion The statement is not fully courteous. It’s borderline rude because of the phrase “keep quiet,” although the conditional structure (“If you could…”) softens it somewhat. 👉 More courteous version: “If you could give me a moment to speak, I’m sure you’ll appreciate my viewpoint.” or “I’d appreciate it if you could hear me out — I think you’ll understand my perspective.” |

lexy2014:"Our" refers to the several people who don't think Rufai Oseni was being professional, respectful and neutral with his handling of the interview session with the minister Umahi. As a journalist, you can ask delicate, incisive or difficult questions in a refined, professional and tactful manner. Your personal opinion seems to question a lot about the project. Those questions can only be answered by the presidency or the ministry of works. I suggest you write to the ministry to request answers or more information on the strength of the freedom of information bill. I want to think you should get a response or good information, that you seek, if your letter is well addressed, professional and carefully scripted. Complaining to the public on nairaland and other social media platforms may be noises that doesn't get you answers. Is it just about politics or getting information? |

Godswillu:No! You don't have to be rude, arrogant, unprofessional and disrespectful to ask incisive, difficult and intelligent questions. Tact and careful planning of the questions may just be skill set that Rufai Oseni should acquire. |

Femi kuti always says it, if there are any set of people who destroyed this country, its the working professionals. Having somwone lkke Rufai as a professional doing his job is nothing but pure class. I respect him for it. |

Shows you actually know nothing about languages. Who told you anticipating someone to keep quite because he was shouting, is wrong? Do a translation to your native language, you would realize how shallow you sound. If you would keep quite(in the present-future ie. an anticipation) There's nothing as respectful as this, Mr English man wey no sabi the Anglo BouquiLake: |

Omalicious1:Not true... It's only unlearned minds that become aggressive when you ask for accountability. Acquiring degrees doesn't necessarily mean you are learned in mind. You can never see politicians like Rochas okorocha shouting at journalist when the most difficult of questions are thrown at him. He must find a way of navigating such questions by way of rhetorics, idioms, parables, comparative analysis etc, and even the likes of Hope Uzodinma; these are people we claim didn't go to school ooh ![]() |

Bosman17:What has age to do with holding shifty and dodgy public servants accountable for the public funds that they spend? Is this how we will develop to the point of no longer birthing children to slave in cold and racist neocolonial countries, bragging about japa and being a diasporan? chisomkachy:The often cited biography titled Madame Tinubu: Merchant and King-maker, authored by Nigerian historian Oladipo Yemitan, paints her views regarding slave trading. On one occasion, during her final sojourn in Abeokuta, she was alleged to have sold a young boy into slavery and was accused of it. When arraigned before Ogundipe Alatise over the matter, she reportedly explained: 'I have a large house-hold and I must feed them well. I need money to do that, that's why'. — Oladipo. Yemitan, 'Madame Tinubu: Merchant and King-maker' Another section of Yemitan's Tinubu biography, referred to as the Amadie-Ojo Affair, captures a slave trading deal gone sour in 1853 (notably after the 1852 Treaty abolishing slavery in Lagos) wherein Tinubu tells another slave trader (Domingo Martinez) that "she would rather drown the slaves [20 in number] than sell them at a discount". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efunroye_Tinubu anonimi: |

BouquiLake:You better remove that nonsense elder. I lost inheritance of over 2B Naira (e loud abi). All the elders can't look at me at my face. I've not been to the church too for over 8years too, they will only tell you God will help you and can't take decisive action on your case even they know the truth. You should be asking what the law says on his conduct? Have you ever wondered why a Prosperous Nigeria in the 70s is a joke now? |
