A Nigerian businessman based in China, Tochukwu Harrison Mmaduboallor, has accused popular social media critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), of jeopardizing the livelihood of Igbo traders by allegedly revealing confidential trade networks in his recent videos. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a video shared online, Tochukwu criticized VDM for disclosing sensitive business information that could potentially harm Igbo entrepreneurs operating in China. He claimed that the influencer’s attempt to help Nigerians access cheaper goods directly from Chinese factories could undermine the long-standing business models many Igbo traders depend on.

“VeryDarkMan will render many Igbo youths in China useless, all in the name of helping Nigerians import goods cheaper,” Tochukwu said. “Business is all about secrecy. Real businessmen don’t introduce their suppliers to their customers.”

According to him, supplier confidentiality is crucial for sustaining profits, and revealing such information could lead to financial losses and increased competition.

Potential Threat to Igbo Economic Influence

Tochukwu further warned that VDM’s approach might unintentionally weaken the economic dominance of Igbo traders in China. He emphasized that Igbo businessmen have built strong trade links over the years through perseverance, secrecy, and trust.

He noted that many traders spend over ₦2 million on travel and endure difficult living conditions abroad just to maintain their businesses.

“Some of us sleep on the streets just to make sure our trade survives. These sacrifices and the secrecy behind our supplier networks are what keep us going,” Tochukwu added.

He expressed fears that connecting Nigerian buyers directly with Chinese suppliers could disrupt existing trade relationships and reduce the competitive edge that Igbo traders currently enjoy.

Tochukwu concluded by stating that the Igbo community holds a leading position in Nigeria’s trade relationship with China, far ahead of other ethnic groups. He cautioned that VDM’s exposure of trade routes and supplier details could destabilize a system that has sustained countless families for decades.

I could remember a lady from China selling cheap Phones LCD in Alaba vicinity, the lady was sent back to China by the union of Alaba traders on the allegation that she would reduce their profit or gain the whole customers to herself. Who is this mugu? Are you not people the one that welcome him in china? I was watching how you people takes him round Guangzhou. You people did not ask what will be the advantage and disadvantage of taking him round your supply..

On issue of exposing secrets of your business that's nonsense. Business cannot be masters by what content creators or on air broadcaster say. Business is learned not hear say. Business has many strategies and doesn't have uniform, business needs analysis, creative, renovate, basis, constant and continuity, all this can't be handling by many because of hear say, even him the VDM. A real business man is not afraid of competition because he have faith in his strategies, which is impossible for his next neighbor to understand. For example we bought the same items in one factory the same price but along the line of selling it, I start selling below the amount we bought it, as my neighbor, what can you do than to complain.

When it come for buying from producers too, it has many strategies, that we bought from one company doesn't mean we are the same from that particular company.

If is easy, VDM should have started importing some of the goods as example to proof how simple it is to start the importation. Even those that study macro- economics fear to establish their own business, instead they invest in capital investment.
