Kano Pillars played against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano yesterday.

Mustapha Jibrin gave Kano Pillars the lead in the 13th minute of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter. Trouble however began when Adam Mustapha scored the equaliser for Shooting Stars in the 94th minute.

🎥 Unacceptable Scenes in Kano

This isn’t the kind of behavior we should be spreading.

Ismail Ayodele and Adams Agba’a were also hit by fans in the chaos that followed the final whistle. Violence has no place in this beautiful game.

Fans can and must do better.

Former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, is the general manager of Kano Pillars.

Ahmed Musa (MON) (OON) 🎖🎖@Ahmedmusa718

I, Ahmed Musa, the General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, extend my deepest and most sincere apologies for the unfortunate, painful, and disgraceful incident that occurred during our game against Shooting Stars Sports Club on Sunday evening.

What transpired against Shooting Stars is heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable. It does not represent the true values, identity, or the proud history of Kano Pillars. This club has always stood for community, passion, and respect, values that must never be overshadowed by violence or indiscipline. As a club with deep roots and loyal supporters, we are expected to set an example of fairness and honour on and off the pitch. Sadly, today, we fell far short of that standard.

I tender an unreserved apology to the players, coaches, officials, and supporters of Shooting Stars Sports Club, to the match referees and league officials who were caught in this terrible situation, to the Nigeria Premier Football League board and its partners at GTI, to the league organisers, and to every football fan across Nigeria and beyond who watched these scenes with anger, shock, and disappointment.

I know how painful it must have been to witness something so damaging to our game, and I am deeply, deeply sorry.

Violence has no place in football. It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and goes against everything this beautiful sport stands for. Football is meant to unite, to inspire, to bring joy. When it turns into scenes of chaos and harm, we must not pretend it away, we must confront it head-on.

I assure everyone that Kano Pillars FC will work closely with the relevant authorities to identify those responsible for this shameful act, and they will face the full consequences of their actions.

We understand that apologies alone are not enough. Words must be followed by action. We would take a huge step internally to ensure that something like this never happens again.

To our loyal fans, I want to speak directly to you. Kano Pillars is a proud club with a rich legacy, and you are the heartbeat of this club. But true support is shown not through violence, but through respect, passion, and discipline.

This must be a turning point for us. We must remind the world that our love for this club can be powerful without being destructive, that our passion can lift its image, not stain it.

Once again, on behalf of Kano Pillars Football Club, I offer my most heartfelt and unreserved apology to everyone affected. To the NPFL, to Shooting Stars, to the referees, to the fans of Nigerian football, and to anyone who believes in the spirit of the game, we are sorry. I am sorry.

We take full responsibility and will do everything necessary to restore trust, respect, and the true spirit of football in Kano and across Nigeria.

NPFL Condemns Kano Pillars Fans’ Attack On Shooting Stars, Match Officials

October 12, 2025

The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has condemned the scenes that erupted at the Sani Abacha Stadium following Kano Pillars 1-1 draw with Shooting Stars.

Kano Pillars fans invaded the pitch shortly after the final whistle.

The NPFL, according to a statement signed by its Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi assured that it will take appropriate action after receiving official match reports and complete video evidence from the Match Commissioner and Referees.

“We condemn in the strongest terms any act of violence, intimidation, or misconduct directed at players, match officials, or fans,” Owumi stated.

“The League is also assuring all stakeholders and football lovers that this isolated incident is being treated with utmost seriousness, and appropriate actions will follow upon review of the full reports.”

He further stated that the NPFL has remained in touch with the Match Commissioner, the Referees and officials of Shooting Stars whose safety has been secured.

“We reaffirm our commitment to maintaining discipline, safety, and professionalism at all league venues across the country,” Owumi concluded.

Although in truth, Kano Pillars were clearly cheated in that match, but what some of our supporters did by invading the pitch and trying to take the law into their own hands was completely unacceptable.

VAR needs to be introduced in the NPFL. 🤔

Kano Pillars fans are always guilty of this. That's why most betting sites always give very low odds to the home side during NPFL matches.
The NPFL should either move their home matches to a neutral stadium, or else ensure that they play their remaining home fixtures behind closed doors.

Nice one from musa...

Musa is a good leader for accepting responsibility.

That doesn't mean kano pillars shouldn't be sanctioned. KP has always been known for behavior like this.

It really needs to stop!

English football used to be as bad as Nigerian football.

Fans attacking opposition fans? Pitch invasions? Live and direct.

The thing ended in England when clubs brought in strict security measures. Which ended the violence and also made it safer for families to go to matches which further reduced the violence.

European football too used to be and in some instances had a violence problem. Check out Italian football too.

The only way to stop this kind of disgraceful incidentis to give kano pillars harsh punishment. I recommend complete ban for 2 season. And kano pillars must not play again in that sanni abacha stadium for 3yrs.

If we don't set rules and standard at the level of the game, we may still witness this kind shameful act again soon.

Infact Almost all the stadiums pavilion in Italy has cage around it.. those people they be confirm werey..

Re: Ahmed Musa Apologises After Kano Pillars Fans Attack Shooting Stars Players. by derico(m):
This same Ahmen Musa that voiced his ethnic sentiments the last time.

That one don dey lose respect small small.

If we classify the football violence to Northern Nigeria, they will say we're inciting ethnic division, but these same northern football fans have repeatedly assaulted opponents and referees, when the game doesn't favour them.

Ofcourse, we shouldn't address it with ethnic lens, but those northerners particularly have to be sternly cautioned.
If not, other teams would start boycotting the matches on the basis of insecurity.
How can players who who should be having fun, playing the good game of football, now be playing with fear...afraid to tackle or score goals, or referees afraid to officiate objectively.

It's one too many...apology shouldn't cut it.

It's now a norm thuggery isn't just in politics and elections, it's in football.

Despite the apology of Ahmed Musa, the NDA should give appropriate sanctions to Kano Pillars and it's management, for being unable to control their fans.
