Lol, your brother probably will see this here. But then I know guys like that. He might not even know nairaland exists. Most privileged kids don't really know how to hit the ground running. I remember a time then I was telling one in the US about doing some paid surveys to earn money, it was strange to him. Advise him to utilize the Internet. He's in a better environment that he should be eligible for so many things. He should learn digital skills. He wouldn't move an inch out of his room before he starts making money legitimately.

It can take sometimes before someone can work after travel, yes, this is because you have to do a lot of registration after you arrive. You can‘t work if you do not have a tax ID, insurance number. There are a lot to do after one arrives in a new country before starting any job.

Sweden is a little economy country. Very tiny and together with language barriers. It might even take longer to secure a job .

Generally it takes a while for someone traveling to many countries to be eligible to work legally in that country - it's not automatic. He still has to process several documentations, that takes time.

Working under the table or doing stuff illegally is why many Nigerians get in trouble and paint the Nigerian image in colors that affect our other brothers and sisters seeking opportunities abroad by doing things they shouldn't do.
They don't want scams in their country, why bring scam to them because you had a visa? They don't want drugs in their country, why bring drugs? If you don't want a thief in your house, wouldn't you just lock your door?

I'm sure you will not want your brother to do certain things neither you nor him will not be proud about and probably get him in trouble where he is still trying to understand.

His original reason for getting the visa was to study, not work. Even if he's granted an opportunity to work, he can only work a few hours a week, not for as long as he wants.

So, please be patient with your brother to sort himself out first. He's fresh in a new clime, probably still learning the cities, the currency, the language, the people etc. These take time.

I'm not in Sweden, but I know that's how it works for anyone traveling from Nigeria to many Western countries. In a matter of time, he will be good. Be patient bro, he'll be fine as long as he's smart to learn his new clime fast enough.

Don't mind him...his student visa allows him to work when he arrives.....and there is no restriction like UK that says 20hrs per week

Still ....that doesn't mean jobs are easy to come by...he may find it difficult getting a job in 3 months seff if he's in sciences programme that's very demanding having lectures, labs, etc

So he will learn coding in three months and starts working abi, you think coding is nanny work right? You cannot even learn barbering and start cutting people's hair in 3 months. For him to be able to get a job in coding, he would have learned for nothing less than a year and six months.

The truth is that a month is not enough to get a job, most especially as a student. Just give him sometime to settle down and find his route.

3 months should be the standard minimum time for anyone in a new country to make headway. He has to understand the system and how it works first unless there are other Nigerians there already that can plug him into things. Adaption as a new migrant is not easy. He won't apply for a job and start working next week.

I studied and lived in Sweden for 6 years.
its not easy getting a job but there are jobs he can get easily, tell him to look for paper distribution it is callked ''Reklam'' in sweden. Reklam is very easy to get but doesnt pay very well and almost all international student from Africa does it.
He doesn't have to wait until 3 months to work, as a student he can work immediately he gets his social security number called ''personnummer'' in sweden, He can get that in a day. He can also start importing things from China and selling on the swedish equivalent of Ebay, it is called ''www.tradera.com''
I did that when i was in sweden and was able to live a very good life and even bought a car from it.

What makes you think he wants to stay idle?? Jobs for students in most developed countries are regulated so it's very likely the guy is saying the truth!

If your family is capable, you guys should support him until he is eligible to work! I don't believe any MAN would just not want to work if he has the opportunity to. You guys should support the young man until he finds his feet over there if you have the wherewithal unless you want him to have problems with his studies and drop out to enter the street hustling which might not favour him in the long run.

Support him for now while encouraging him to get a job immediately he's eligible. Many Nigerian students are suffering in Europe and America because of this mindset that once someone gets over there, they start picking up money from the streets! It doesn't work that way!
